Title: My friend's 78 K20.... after rolling it.
Post by: 82Shortbed on December 25, 2008, 10:54:44 pm
Used to be a FUN ride.  78 K20, 355, Granny Gear 4 speed, 4.11 gears, sittin on 39s.  Went up Aetna Mtn in Tiftonia, TN, got OFF the mountain and started to get back on the main road, hit a mud puddle that was knee deep....first pic was when it was intact....the rest will follow.

Another shot after takin the fall...luckily no one was hurt, 2 of my friends were in it, and one landed on the other when it toppled, a cell phone got drowned, and my friends were both sore the next day, they had to climb out the driver side window, which warped the steering column and/or wheel.

Out free......  I'm gonna take more pics of the truck now, its at my friend's house on jackstands, he says the tailshaft broke on the transmission, and it leaked oil out into the creek it landed in.  The front end is bad bad bad, the sway bar is warped bad, tie-rod ends are a scramble, and i hate to know what else is damaged.

Well it looks like he has a good parts truck now. Body lifts suck. You can see how far the body shifted in those pics.

It just rolled onto its side, then when my friends climbed out it rocked onto part of the cab then rolled back down, he wants to fix it, but its not worth it IMO.  He'd need a whole new cab and everything.

If its not worth rebuilding salvage what you can and build another. Got to be enough worth saving.

Honestly, he found that bull bar just riding around in Chattanooga, snagged it up for $20, had to modify just a little but it looked pretty good! The truck had rust issues being from Indiana,  but was fun as could be, We're tryin to talk him into an 84 K5 with no engine on 33s for $700.

that sounds like a good deal. prob 700 bucks just in tires there. is the motor cooked in the one he rolled or could he swap the motor into this 84 if he buys it?

LOL! What do you think Dusty ::) Told Ya I was SLOOoooow ;D Have been wanting to polish it, but haven't been motivated to....  Besides, I was just wondering if I can get the manufacturer's info so I can ask them about the extensions, or find pics of them to have a pair fabricated for the one I got from you....  Have always liked the full Safari Style Brushguards, instead of just the center Bullbars.....

I don't know for sure, It did leak oil out into the creek which I think I mentioned earlier, He's gonna change oil and filter and fire it up and see what it does.  I sure hope it's okay, it's a pretty fresh engine.
