this is my silver! been working on this truck since i was 10 years old. my grand father bought her new lowered it and put the rims on drove it everyday for 8-10 years, sold her to my dad who drove it everyday to work for 10+ years and i bought her from my dad fixed her up a bit and parked it for the last 3 years. 350/350 all power every option until i took of the a/c stuff (to make her lighter LOL) keep in mind i was only about 12-13 years old) this truck has a TON of history so i'll keep it kinda short... future plans will be in the project threads. 700r4, all new interior w/ floor shifter and bucket seats, body & paint. without further a doo here is the only pic i have on photobucket...(http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff240/menace121978/IMG_0786.jpg)

holy crap that is gorgeous, remove the 79 headlight bezels and put some chrome wagon wheels on it and it would look exaclty the same as my very first 73-87 chevy truck, a 77 chevy silverado shortbed. Very nice!
-
Very clean truck. 8)
-
slick, very slick. nice ride!
-
Sure is pretty
-
thanks alot! let the modding/remodding begin... going to start a game plan on paper tonight and maybe take out the interior. i'm kinda reluctant because the interior is ok but the passenger side floor panel is rusted through.
-

oops double post

hey thanks again guys! i'm about to do a triple post in the members projects forum once i find more info on a 5.3/4l60e conversion. i have been searching and reading everything i can find on the swap on 68-72 forums and ls1tech forum. i still have more ?'s than answers mostly about the wiring and whats needed to stay emissions legal. and/or even where to start... i have a line on a 5.3 out of a 2wd 2002 tahoe w/ 54k miles for $1,200.

these buddy are the real deal! old school purchased back in 1980 i have stripped the old dull clearcoat off and polish them every once in a while. was a pain in the arse to get them looking like that!
-
Very nice! Can you tell us the tire size and drop amount/method? Thanks!

the tire size is 295/50/15 all the way around. the front is all pst bushings, ball joints, ect. w/ 1 coil cut out of the stock springs. the rear is just 3 leafs taken out for now. cant really haul anything too heavy, not that i would want to anyways.
i have bell tech drop coils but it wasnt enough of a drop and rode too rough. going to get the spindles next time around.

You might want to check out Cordova Truck Dismantlers. They are local and stock both the LS1 motors and transmissions. Their guys are very knowledgeable about that swap. Did anyone here get back to you with answers on a 5.3 L motor swap?
(I was considering it myself, but went the old-school big-block route instead)
-
no no one has got back to me. i'll check out cordova dismantlers. i went out to pick and pull yesterday and poked around a bit for bucket seats and to see if there were any 700r4 trans (original plan) that looked decient but every thing was pretty well picked through. i almost stopped at that gm dismantler but it was so dang cold and everytime i've been there they have been over priced anyway but there knowledge may be worth it.
i am just wondering about the a/c and cruise control because most guys are smoothing out there firewall so not sure if i need the heater box. i dont want to do something and have to go back because i should have done something else at the time and i'm not going to do this half way. just trying to get a good solid game plan/ knowledge base before i jump in and start tearing apart a perfectly running truck. i want everything to work and pass smog. thanks for the feedback buddy! Dennis

I along with a few other people have done or in the process of doing a LS conversion. May want to start a new topic on it or do a search, there is alot of questions answered already.

thanks captkaos, i have been searching through this forum for hours on end and read through your build a number of times. i'll prob. start another thread with questions. do you have a favorite thread/link that shows the process from start to finish or one that answers the most ?s on doing this swap?
-
You should also check out LS1truck's forum (http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/). They have a section dedicated to LSX conversions and there are a few 73-87's there. Not that I'm recommending them over the guys here, but if you are looking for info, you should consider all your available resources.
-
man your reading my mind! i've been over there for 4 1/2 hours since i found a link after i couldnt sleep last night. lots of awesome info.
and the list of parts keeps growing!LOL

The best thing you can do for yourself is get an accurate list of all the little nuts and bolts you'll need to really finish the job. Those little costs add up fast and a good shopping list now can put the project cost into perspective, so you don't get overwhelmed, run out of funds, and leave the project half-finished for 3 years.

Mine is documented as progress goes here:
