Title: Points to HEI Distrib positioning
Post by: GoatBeard on January 08, 2009, 04:13:40 pm
I'm converting a 305 from points to HEI.

With the points @ TDC I am pointing toward the #1 plug @ 6:30

I have read that when I change to HEI I need to change that to the 5:30 position

Is this true?

Thanks in advance,

Sam

there is points on your Blazer?
You can point the rotor in any direction you want, but some of the stuff at the back may be in the way.  All of them should be able to point to what I call the 5 o'clock position.

The neighbor bought an old 57 Chevy truck with a 305 & S-10 5-speed in it -- it's from Birmingham, might have been yours?  ;)

We had read conflicting information on the distributor positioning so I figured that since it was the same engine-type that we deal with here I'd ask.

Thanks for the info.

Nope, not mine. ;) Just put it where it normally goes and let her go.

What is pointing at the 6:30 position? The balancer? The rotor? The vacuum advance? I'm not following what you are trying to line up.

I understood he was talking about the location of the #1 distributor pin.
