Title: 91 5.7L questions
Post by: zieg85 on January 10, 2009, 08:54:33 pm
Can I modify the intake of a 5.7L to work with a carb?   The engine I pulled from my 91 parts truck has a block off plate for the fuel pump, were they typically machined to go either way or was it a way to use up the old block inventory?  I would like to try playing with a 1 bbl fish carb with this engine.

What do you mean modify the intake?  ???

If it has the block off plate you can use a mechanical pump if that's what you are asking.

Use the intake by machining an adaptor plate for the fish carb?

What is a fish carb? Is it flat on the bottom?

Ok, If I had heard of those, I forgot I guess. I do remember hearing/reading about Fireball Roberts on some of the old Nascar shows/books. Can they be bought today?  Zieg, in the "pictures" part of the site shows what looks like a Fish to Q-jet adapter...Looks to me a flat plate could work though. Thanks, Lorne

I have seen some earlier 90's blocks have the fuel pump boss cast in the side but no hole machined for the fuel pump rod. If yours has a plate the rod hole might be there too.
