Title: Fuel Gauge Fritz

I recently installed a Autometer Phantom tachometer and upon the first start up my fuel gauge shot up about 90 degrees past the full line and then dropped back where it was supposed to be and has been doing this intermittently. As far as wiring goes, I spliced into the pink and black wire that runs to the cluster for tach power, and for illumination I spliced into the main gray wire that runs into the cluster. The ground I ran out to the alternator bracket with the main ground strap. If this is interfering with the fuel gauge how should I correct it or where is the best place to wire the tach into? Thanks!

I tie all my gauge lighting to the headlamp switch so it dims with it and comes on with the headlights.
As for power, not sure what you mean, Ones I use only need a signal from the HEI

Now that I think about it, maybe the power wire is used for the shift light which I'm not using anyway. I'll try disconnecting that and see if it helps.

lol. the pink/black wire is to your fuel gauge! Run a designated power supply.

Oh okay. From the way the diagram looked that was just a general switched power wire. I'll just run one to the fuse box. Sorry for the newbness but I've been out of the Chevy way of life for awhile hah.
