ok, so me and my buddy were talkin about motors today and somethin came up. say we get ahold of a 6.0 liter out of a newer chevy pickup and wanted to convert it from vortec to carbureted. i think it would be a sweet motor with some power potential. i was just wondering what it would take to convert it. i know the intake manifold/carb, but what about the distributor? what kind of intake manifold? just curious, the idea popped up.

There is a member here who has done exactly that. As far as I know, all you need is a controller for your ignition - both MSD and GMPP offer one. From there Edelbrock offers both dual plane and single plane manifold options, whereas GMPP only offers single plane. Of course you would also need an electric fuel pump and regulator.
If it were me, though, I'd keep it EFI. It's actually cheaper in the end if you score your engine from a salvage yard complete with ECM and harness. And you get the best of both worlds awesome power (with a simple cam swap), great mileage, and smooth streetability. The only way I'd convert an LSX engine to carb is if it were going in show car and aesthetics was just as important as power.
Thanks alot. Now you've got me dreaming about "what if my truck were LQ9 powered" again. >:(

i was thinkin i would keep the efi too and do a cam and headers. however i was thinkin there may be more options for power with the carb though.

So ya like LSX stuff, I seen a video on 1320video.com that was wild! this guy Parrish has a 03 chevy truck turboed making over 1000 HP on a chassis dyno I think they had 25 or 29lbs. boost. Its been awhile but it should still be there.
I'd say a turbo and lap top tuning (EFI alive) is the way to go with the LSX. If your going to spend some monies do it right.

I have a carbureted 6.0 in my truck and it's pretty nice. I've had a bit of bad luck with it due to some rookie mistakes, but overall it was a good swap. Somedays I wish it was EFI and other days I'm glad I went with a carb. Good luck with it.

I have a 6.0L going in my truck. It will be twin remote turbo'd. I am hoping for 800hp/900lb/ft to the tire.
My brother who owns/runs http://www.gracemotorsports.biz has a remote turbo on his with a 6.0L and it currently is making 535hp/725lb/ft at the tire. at 12lbs of boost on a completely stock motor out of a 2003 3/4T Van and was driving it daily until he bought a Cobalt for work.
I personally would keep EFI and Turbo it.
Just another piece of info, Parish sold his truck so nothing on the site will be updated on it.
There are a couple of people with LS motors on here also.

corrrection, he is sitting here,
on 9lbs 490/613
on 15lb 606/800

WOW! those are some nasty numbers.

the 6.0 engines are cool. Found a decent write up for anyone that's interested.
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/completebuilds_testing/sucp_0806_budget_ls_engine_buildup/index.html
The engine in the write up is carb'd and has a set of gm performance heads on it....made 480 hp with the gm hot cam and 540 hp with the more aggressive race cam.

I take it you are currently working on the wiring harness retrofit, LOL. Good luck. How about making a member's project thread?
