Are there any brake upgrades that can be done rather cheaply? I'm sure Baer makes a kit, but I'm thinking more like brakes swaps from other cars where I can get the parts at the junk yard. However, I think it will be difficult since the majority of the time when we drop the truck it's via the spindles. Any input would be appreciated...

what are you working on?

Nothing yet, but I plan on building a short box "old school" pro-touring truck. I want to upgrade the brake system, but not with an expensive kit. At a minimum I want 4 wheel disk brakes....

Front you will have to get a kit: http://www.kore3.com/ has made a kit for these that use Vette setups with a new hub that fits the GM spindle. SCOTI on here has their prototype. http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=5574.15
Rear you can get a setup off a Caddy Seville 78-79, or you can adapt a set off a Impalla SS.

Cool! Thanks.... :)

I was thinking along those same lines but instead of spending 300 bucks on spindles, I was going to simply mill the rotors so that it becomes a hub. Im guessing the only downside would be the offset track width of the front would increase the width of the new brake, and possibly longer studs and an eccentric to center the rotor on the hub.
Then figure out what kind of brake rotors and calipers i wanted to use and figure out how to mount them accordingly. I dont have any plans of doing them anytime soon since I am away from home and my tools :(but the seed was planted)
Very simple on the hub idea, just unsure what i want to go with as far a caliper/rotor combo.

The 2 piston pbr is the samething baer cheap kit is.I would like to see them make a kit for the c6 z06 front and back.I think they make the back now with out a parking brake tho.

I installed a big brake kit on my '75 this weekend. The install was smooth as butter. Has the 52mm dual piston PBR caliper. More stopping power than the C-5 caliper in my opinion. Will post pics when I download 'em.

What about brakes off of much newer trucks? Surely they must have gotten bigger/better by now...
