Title: Timing
Post by: tgzzzz on January 29, 2009, 09:38:29 am
I have just installed a used pre-86 350 engine in my 11k# motorhome. All emmisions stuff has been removed. I'm wondering what the timing should be to set to. It starts fine at 8D BTDC. But a marine mechanic says he sets 350s at zero in boats due to the similar weight/resistance.

Any thoughts on this?

As long as it starts easy and idle quality is good, do the ole advance it til it pings and reatard it. Then check and record your timing settings. After that you can play around with your advance curve.

Zero is for computer controlled ignition timing
