Title: fair price for donor interior-? / aftermarket custom seat
Post by: p7387 on January 29, 2009, 06:55:53 pm
hey guys-
i found a complete interior for my 87, door panels, headliner dash cover, carpet, seat etc.  i have not seen it yet but the owner says it is in "good condition".
what would a fair price be to offer.

additionally he claims that the seat is a custom aftermarket seat designed as a direct fit for this truck type, captain type seats with a center fold down storage etc. this would be included with the interior i will be purchasing.

just out of curiosity what aftermarket retailers sell such a seat, and are they a good product?

thanks

Thanks for the input guys.
I went to look at the interior today and it is all in reasonable condition with the dash pad being the best of all.
The seat is a "qualitex" which I know goes for about $1500 new, it is in fair condition. I offered $200 but the owner was asking for $300. in your opinion is the "qualitex" seat worth $200 alone even if only fair?

thanks

$1500(new)-$200(used)=$1300 saved. $1300 saved- $500 recovering seats=$800 saved

mmmm Id do it in a second. You can get $1500 dollar seats , have them recovered and put them in you truck for $700. Go for it. It shouldnt cost that much to have them recovered, thats just a hi estimate. If its just dirty, you can have it cleaned and still save a fortune.

With that high of quality seat I would say $300 would be a fair price if everything is in good shape. I say buy it!

LOL :D You definitely insulted him with the $200 offer.  It is worth more than what he is asking in my opinion.  I would have jumped on it at $300.

I recently bought a seat set up similar to what I think you are talking about and paid $300 for them.  Had them strapped in the box and stopped at a tire store, a guy there was begging me to sell them to him as he had been looking for a set for a long time.  I didn't, but I probably could have made some fast cash.

thanks for all the input-
we agreed on 250 for the seat and the whole interior (Grey). it is a qualitex seat which i know goes new for $1500 new. it is about 12 years old and the the slider mechanism and seat tilt on one side need to be fixed or lubed as they are not working and the seat definitely needs a good cleaning or a reupholster, but given all the factors and all your input it still seems like a good deal. the dash is near prefect, door panels average, headliner+carpet poor.

on a second note which i have also posted separately in the interior section -- what is the story with the driver side kick panel (with vent) !! what a HORROR trying to remove!
it this normal or is there some sort of trick involved?  additionally why does my truck (which has AC) have no kick panel vents but the donor truck (without AC) did have them?

thanks

A/C set to max position recirculates cabin air. Normal position brings in fresh air from the cowl. Non ac trucks direct fresh air through the kick panel door.

Sorry about that Captkaos, I should have referenced your store. I got mine a few years ago before I found this site.

don't forget about blind dumb luck...a friend and i went to a pick and pull lookin' for parts for a mustang and i found a 81-87 dash pad with the trim and all the vents for $35...i was giddy...the pad has a small crack between the defrost vent and windshield, but other than that,flawless...it's even the right color...maybe i should buy a lotto ticket.
