I found this center console in a local junkyard near me. It is out of an early 90's suburban. The guy wants $45 for it. It has a few cracks as you can see, but i think that with some clamps and some epoxy I can fix those since the plastic is so thick. This console will be for an 87 silverado single cab. (regular, not a crew cab.) I plan to have it covered in leather or something so i guess that the color is a not an issue. My truck has tan interior, and as you can see the console is blue. I know that we have all been over this subject a time or two, but do you see anything wrong with my plan to use this console in my truck? Think i will run into any major problems? My only concern is really the brackets. Will i have to fab my own, or can i somehow modify the suburban brackets to fit correctly? I would like it to look as close to stock as i can get it.

never put one in but i thought that all you need are the brackets and your good but the cracks IMO you could get better for 45
-
I wanted to modify my post but i got a DNS server error. So i will have to reply. I would also like to add this stuff:
If the truck it is going in had a bench seat, will i need to drill holes for the bracket? (you know how sometimes there are places for things that did not come on that particular vehicle)
Also, i think that there are different styles of consoles. This one has square holes for the drinks and seems to be a little bit longer (maybe an inch or two) than the one that has circular holes for the drinks. Does it matter which one i get?
Oh and sorry about the poor quality pics, i had to use my cell phone. Here is a pic of the other style of center console:

If it were in good shape, maybe$45, but with the cracks and such, I dont think more than $25. You will have to punch you own holes to mount it tho.. It would be neat, but seems kinda high. You know your area tho, that might me a reasonable price.
-
for the 81-91 consoles, I personally wouldn't pay that much for it. I got a perfect no cracks or scratches from a buddy of mine for $65 and it came with the key and the matching door lock cylinders.
All of the consoles are the same lenght, and you need the brackets from the donor.

Yeah, i will try to haggle the $45 bucks down some, due to the cracks. In my town it is difficult to find seats/consoles for these trucks as i live in a small town and many people still drive them and thus buy the parts. I will check Fort Worth for some better deals though. There is a place there called GM heaven and another place called Truck Heaven. But as for the brackets on the center console, will they need to be modified in any way or do they just already fit correctly?

If they came out of a Burb they should be fine.

Ok thanks for the info. And now... more questions. ;D Some of them unrelated to the topic, but oh well.
1. Do you think that the curve in the bottom of the burban's console will line up with the floor in the truck, or will there be some kind of unsightly bulge? The stock console for the truck seems to have a non-curved bottom.
2.Do you think the console could be easily covered in leather/vinyl or painted? My original idea was to cover it in tan leather to match the truck and hide the blue. But after looking at it a little more today i am not sure if that would be feasible or even doable without a lot of trouble.
3. What would you pay for a used AC control unit? (the thing with the little levers for AC or heat and all that.) I have found one that is in excellent shape (it's in the same suburban) and mine is cracked and old and just looks ugly. Mine still works, but hey, we like to fix stuff up around here right?
4.What type of paint would you use to restore the outer silvery rim of the gauge holes on a gauge bezel? The one that came in my truck is trash, someone tried to install a CD player and it did not work out so well. So i got another one from the same junkyard after making sure it would fit correctly. I had the aluminum face, but all i could find in the junkyard in the way of aluminum faces was ones that had that oxidization crap on the aluminum part of the bezel. So i found a nice black one that just needs that silvery paint restored that goes around all the borders of all the holes in the bezel. I know there are a great many paints to choose from, but that is part of my problem. Which one would look closest to the way it would have looked from the factory, yet still stand up to being in a vehicle's interior? (sun, going from hot to cold all the time, ect)
5. Is there some way to get that oxidization off the aluminum face bezels? The junkyard has about 20 of them, all with the ugly oxidization. If there was some way to get that off i could get one for my truck and have both bezels and then just choose the one that looks best for the paint scheme that i eventually decide on. It looks as though there could be some type of film covering the aluminum part? Or maybe some of them are not actually aluminum on there, maybe it is just some kind of shiny plastic veneer stuff?
Probly should have started a new thread with some of this stuff....

1) There isn't a "Burb" console and a "Blazer" console and a "Pickup" console. ALL of them use the same exact console.
2) Easily covered, No.
3) no more than $25 (around here)
4) Any paint that will stick to plastic. Testors model paint comes to mind
5) Are you talking about the inserts on the factory setup? It would be easier to cover it up with a real aluminum bezel.
I can split this if you like.

Well if you look at the blue console that i posted, and then the black one farther down, you can see that there are some differences. The blue one has no indention running down the lid, and has no small dip around the lock. The black one has both of these. Also, the blue one seems to have square drink holes, the black has round. Unless you were saying that the size is the exact same and not the consoles themselves. But i guess if the burb one never came in the trucks, then it kinda rules it out for me anyway. I want it to resemble something that could have been stock.
-
well I'm not sure but i think buckets and a console never came in our trucks, maybe I'm wrong idk
-
I just finished putting some 1991 chevy buckets and above pictured console in my 86. Made my own seat frame and sanded all the texture off the console.
-
There are 3 kinds of consoles and they are based on year not application.
1)1969-1976
2)1977-1980
3)1981-1991
And yes bucket seats were an option on these truck up to about 1982 that I can tell. The bottoms of them are basically all the same profile and they will interchange with any year truck from 1973 - 1991.

Well, i got the bezel all painted up like i wanted it. But the model paint is not as scratch resistant as i would like it to be. After all this hunting up a new center console, i am starting to wonder if the dealer still sells one.
-
Dealer sells the console. Negative. You might can get them to do a country wide search for it, but don't hold your breath. Shoot me an email and I will see if I can find you one.
-
Well, let me find some high back blazer seats and some suburban mounting brackets first, so that i can be sure that i can even do this. Then i will shoot you an email. But best to see if i can even get the seats first.
