Title: Vets of Dash and the Gauge Cluster Lights

I was looking closely at my gauges, and I had a question for the Vets of Dash.

If I replace the 168-type bulbs with the LED version, will it get too hot inside the gauge cluster compartment?

PeteI think VileZambonie was the drummer for Vets of Dash, wasnt he? like, in 1977?

LED's will be fine and you won't have any temperature issues.

I have no experience with them, but have heard the only problem with using LED's is that they are either on or off, there is no brightness adjustment.  I simply replaced my bulbs with 168's and painted the back of the reflector (originally light blue) with cheapo chrome paint. It really brightens up the the whole area.

I thought I would paint mine also, but I was just going to use white.  and GAH the led versions of that light bulb were $10 a pair.. I think Ill paint the blue part white, and stay with the stock bulb.. unless I can get them cheaper online somewhere.

I replaced all my gauge bulbs with LED's and have had only one issue come up so far.  When I shift in 4wd a bulb lit up (an idiot light I guess) which I replaced with one of those small led's.  The problem is that the led will only briefly flash once as I shift into 4wd rather than stay on like the bulb did.  Does anyone know why this happens or have a solution?  I tried a 25 watt load equalizer but that didn't help.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

LEDs produce FAR less heat than incandescent bulbs, virtually none in fact.

LEDs use less energy and waist less energy "heat" they even get brighter the colder they get. not talking like a couple DEC differences and they get so bright they blind ya. but they do get brighter the colder they get
