Curious if people would rather buy say a 600cfm carb than mess around with a q-jet to get it running properly?
I have a q-jet on my truck but from what it sounds like its been toyed around with and who knows when it was last rebuilt. I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to this but from what I've read it could perhaps just be easier to pickup a nice 600cfm carb and just go.
Thoughts?

I would rather rebuild a Q-jet than spend money on another carb.

I could pickup a 600 for $100 used and would need another if I was going to tackle rebuilding the q-jet anyways haha.

i would stay with the q-jet..if you dont know how to rebuild it bring it to a garage or someone that knows how to...thats what i did and it cost $132....that was with some other stuff though so it would be a little cheaper...the q-jets have big secondaries so thats good when you want to give it some gas

So I just pulled the number off the carb.. doesn't look good.
The number I got was:
1708-5-5-8-6
Which basically means:
1708 = 1980
5 = 1985
5 = Cali Emissions
8 = Checker and Marine
6 = Auto transmission
Upon doing some reading it appears Checker and Marine is exactly that a marine company so it perhaps looks like my Qudrajet belongs on a boat ...
