Hey guys. I work for a guy whos shop burnt down 2 years ago, it was quite a bad deal as he had 500k worth of snap on tools he had been collecting his whole life. He started sometime last summer rebuilding his shop and now we have the vapor barrier done and the sheet rock is ready to be hung. He has a lot of different vehicles in his yard, 50% or more are either old GM or Chevys. Here are some pictures, enjoy.

What kind of business is it, a sheet metal fab place? I hope there's a sprinkler system installed. Ther's some really old iron around there! Good luck with the rebuild! You have to work in all that snow? It's 60 deg. here. 8)

Ya it is cold here :D it was -50 F for weeks like a month ago, it is starting to warm up and now we are getting daylight, woohoo! This is a scrap yard! We collect copper and aluminum, we smash it, and send it to seattle for $$$$$. But we are not scrapping the trucks, we part them, sell them, rebuild them. This spring we will be pulling all trucks out and rebuild everyone of them to sell them and get them on the road. I am going to learn a lot and I cant wait to get started. In fact I got my truck running and I am leaving for there now. Cya

Those are some very, very nice pics. I love the beauty of Alaska.
I know about garage fires. My dad had so many tools, table saws, old antique things from generations past, so many things in his garage. When it all burned, he was sick for months.

Thanks Sarg, I knew you guys around here would enjoy the pics. I should take more pics of the rest of the trucks. I guess you live and learn with shop fires, he had so much stuff in there.

Yeah, dad realized after the fact that the day before the fire, he had to reset the tripped electrical circuit that leads to the garage, twice. that night, well, it was history.
Best guess? Squirrels love chewing wires.

Yeah, 'nam was tough on him, he still has nightmares to this day. He was shot four times while being a Sgt in the Devil Dog Marine Corp--once right through the neck, resulting in two scars, one in front of his neck, the other, the exit wound behind. They sewed him up and threw him back out in the lines. He had to write his orders on paper because he couldn't talk. Then I was born at Camp Lejeune, NC at the Marine base. There were many problems with my birth and dad got his honorable discharge to be with us.
He's had a tough life, but, all in all, he has made the right decisions and made a good life for himself. What gets me is these freakin' pan handlers on the streets begging for money claiming to be 'nam vets and therefore need money. I wanna take my Glock out and show them what that end of a barrel looks like. They ain't never seen the stuff my dad has seen and use being a vet as some excuse to beg for money because they are some lazy dishonest sob's. I oughta take a bat to them.
To top if off, the K-bar knife he had in 'nam he used for everything--was in the garage. He told me one time after he had a few, the number of gooks he took care of with that same k-bar. He described how he'd scramble, well, you know. That was a bad loss when that burned. I wanted that down the road.

how far are you from North Pole? my brother used to live there when he was stationed at Wainwright and still owns a house in North Pole. I always wanted to go visit him when he lived there, he loved Alaska and plans on moving back when he is done in the service.

I am actually really close to North Pole, and I have lived there probably half a dozen times. It is about 15 minutes away from my house and about the same from my boss's. I live downtown Fairbanks and his yard is near Chena Hot Springs. My father was a black hawk pilot for almost 20 years so we moved and lived in many states across USA, mostly the South. I moved with him to Alaska in 2000 and only left the state once for about a year and a half (not my choice). I call Alaska home, and plan to stay here the rest of my life. They say once you live in Alaska and can live through a winter, then you will always come back.

I used to be a Blackhawk mechanic back in the late 90's at Fort Campbell ( 97 to 99)
