Post by: bowtech on February 13, 2009, 11:22:17 pm
I have a stock 86 2wd 1500, how much of a lift would i need to make it the same height as a stock 4wd?

You will never get it high enough for your liking.  You can get some height by changing out your front springs with new ones for an application with a big block.  Anything beyond that it won't drive right, even after an alignment.  Welcome to the site from NW Indiana.

1Ton springs are better for lifting but you won't get that much out of it to be like a 4x4.

I would go with heavy duty springs and a 3" body lift, that's what my buddies truck has that I'm slowly building for him if I can get the wheel barring I will have it on the ground by the weekend and I'll take some pics

I'd go with a body kit. I already have a 3/4 ton (rougher riding)  but I put one ton springs underneath it and it lifted it about 2 inches, but it beats the crap out of you unless you're on a super-smooth road.  I'm seriously considering lowering it back down to stock height so it'll ride better.  I like the lift, but not enough to let those one-ton springs beat me and my truck to death.  I got a good taste the other day in an industrial area I had to goto where the roads are super-rough from all the big trucks in and out of there, man that sucked!
