I'm looking at picking up what is advertised as a 1978 Chevrolet Silverado- Stepside. The guy has told me the VIN is located in the modern location in the corner of the dash. (not on the plate in the door sill) The VIN he's given me is CCD14AAXXXXXX. It all makes sense besides that "A" in the sixth digit. I asked him multiple times "Are you sure it's A...A?" "It's Apple...Apple right?" He keeps saying, that's the right number. It's advertised as a 78, but he also keeps saying it's possibly a 1980 model. He also mentioned something about it having a hood popper under the dash and seemed to think that was a 1980+ feature? The truck is 2 hours away so I can't easily go look at it myself. I've asked him to try and find the VIN on the frame sometime tomorrow...we'll see how that turns out. Any ideas on what this thing could be???

If the vin is correct it would be 1980

I thought for 1980 the sixth digit should be a 0 (zero). At least that's what this says...

That's probably a typo. It should be A for 1980. Ask other members here with a 1980 to check their vins

Yep, you're right. According to this page, the A=1980 is correct.

It is a typo on our page that was left over from when I took over. I honestly forgot to fix it. There is a ton of stuff I want to add to that page.
