I picked this truck up on “craigslist” for $1200.00 as a roller. I got it back in Oct. of 08’, I believe. Here are a few pics when I pulled it off the trailer. I had to go to the junk yard to get some rims and tires on it to move it around….so that’s why it’s got random rims on it..LOL!
-
Here's what the inside looked like as well.......
-
So, later that day..........I had to start ripping on her!
Click Pics to make bigger
-
Removing more stuff......
-
Test fitting 15x14 rims for the rear. Getting ready to tub and ladder bar!
-
Started working on the ladder bars and removed 11.5" from the rear end for the back tires to fit correct.
-
More.....
-
Not in the pic but the frame over the rear end has been "step notched" for travel and some supports have been tied in for the shock mount. Ordered a 10 point roll cage and will be boxing in the frame as well.
I guess I'll gets some more updated pics and post them up later.

nice
-
what a great deal..... and you dont waist anytime with your work.... looking good....
cant wait to see more pics
-
I like it, what a deal for 1200. 8)
-
That's going to be nice!
-
Thanks guys! ;)
-
Great looking truck ;) cant wait to see it with a BBC in it.
-
Yea that was a pretty good deal for 1200 bucks. Im really impressed with how straight the body seems to be..
-
wow that is a good deal and you waisted no time at all tubing that thing, make sure to keep us all posted with lots of pics 8)
-
No worries.....pictures will be updated as time goes on! LOL...this could turn into one long thread.
-
That looks like a great truck for 1200. That set up on the rear looks good keep us posted on the progress.
-
Lookin' Good! That's getting allot of work done in a short time. One concern I have is that with the welding for the ladder bar & coil spring brackets, the tubes will likely "move around" a little & the housing ends won't be true in line with the carrier bearings. It's best to do all of the welding for the brackets first & then install the housing ends, Just a thought. What are you going to use for a side to side locater? Let's see some more of the Camaro in the background. Lorne

Great start to a cool project. I like that color. Good luck!
-
You are tearing into that thing..

Thanks for the concerns, I appreciate it…… but…
In a nut shell…..the pics I posted of the ladder bars are not the completed product. The completed (or further along) pics were lost when my computer hard drive took a poop and I haven’t taken any updated ones. All pics of the ladder bar in this thread (as of now) were only tack welded and nothing more. When it was welded in we used a “solid aliment tube” we made to keep the bearings true and for the side to side….so far I have a “track bar or track rod” in there that’s not in the pics as well.
I can see how that would come up after looking back over the pics! I’ll get some updated stuff up soon… as soon as the frame boxing is finished.
-
Here's the car in the background... 67' maro! My truck is at my best friends house and as I work on my truck, he works on his car..LOL!
He's still got a boat load of stuff to do to it. Here's a few pics of him just "test fiting" the motor he's running.
-
Now that's a real obstacle to see around ;D Is that a Compition Engineering ladderbar set-up in the Camaro? Cool projects, both of 'um! Lorne

Both projects have comp engineering ladderbar and coil overs!

That’s the plan!
For the most part both year models have to pass a safety inspection and a few other things.
I guess I should add some pics of the “Maro” here and there to keep things moving.
Maybe a two for one thread!?!?!?
-
Updated Pics:
Got a new diff. cover installed and started on the rear bars for the cage.
-
....still need to clean up welds and paint....so disregard the rust...LOL!
-
Dude, that's awsome!
-
Just got my rear rims in the mail. The mockup rim were off my friends "maro". These are the one's I plan to run. Weld Racings "Draglite 90" 15x14 with 4.5" offset!
-
One more.....
-
Dang your mailbox must be huge! LOL
I've always been a fan of draglites. That's going to look good.
-
going to look very good! so were the tires in your mockup the 29x18.5x15 's that you are using on these rims? or where those something different?
-
Good choice...
-

All the stuff I'm buying should look the same as the mockup as far as fit. So.....yes!!
-
Those wheels look good, they are gonna look great on the truck.
-
Very Nice! One more concern at this point. The rear bars done like that are not NHRA/IHRA legal if you plan to "test out your handywork" at a sanctioned track. I'm not saying you won't get away with it, it's just don't be supprised if...kinda thing. A guy near me has run a S-10 with a complete hoop/door bars inside the cab & nothing else for several years in the 10's with no problem. In the rule book is some areas on "truck roll bars" (for the pro stocks mainly) it goes on to say "no rear bars required, da da da, but must pass 25.5 spec" (these vehicles look worse than a jungle gym) bars everywhere, across the floor, rocker rails, funny car cage, ect. When I first saw this section in the rule book, I was planning to do bars just like yours...until I got some help with the details. Not picking on you...just would hate to see you go to the trouble & be disappointed later. Keep up the good work! I would love to get that much done in so little time. Lorne

I know your not picking on me......it's cool!!
Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure it wasn't legal...LOL! I just don't like them coming out above the window like you see them most of the time. So, I wanted them so you couldn't see them with a bed cover on. The trucks going to be a street truck, that's way I'm building it the why I want. I'd like to hit the track with it and see what it will do....but if building it like I want.....makes it not happen.....so be it!
I loved the "jungle gym" comment....I know what your talking about, it just looks bad! ;)
-
The bars going out through the back will likely be the main reason I won't be going much faster, I guess the wife will be the judge of that. If a guy puts a complete cage in the cab: main hoop, A pillar bars, windshield bar, door bars & bars like yours...that sure would seem safer/stronger than just a 6 point (main hoop, door bars & correct rear bars) that is legal down to 10.00 with a stock floor & firewall. That was why when the "truck section" was found...I thought we were on to something, oh well. You will "get away with it" a pass or Two I'm sure..especially the last day of the year ;) Nice work & have fun! Lorne
-
Lorne,
You got any bigger pics of your avatar? Looks pretty cool from what I can tell...seeing it a smaller pic. I'm newer around here so forgive me for asking but....what motor and all that are you running? What kind of track times are you seeing?
Thanks
-Jason
-
Jason, It's really a pretty mild 455 Olds (stock short block w/hyd. flat tappet cam, some workbench port work, Q-jet, ect.) a 4l60 tranny w/a used S-10 converter & 9" rear w/3.50 gears. LOTS more to wring out of it, I'm sure. I built it for my wife as her first bracket racer/street toy for low dollars. She's gone high 11's @111 mph. She's all giddy...the race schedule came in the mail yesterday. Lorne

;D.....
Thanks for the info! That’s a really cool picture. That’s awesome that your wife is down with racing and such. What size rims and tire you running up front in that thing?
Cool Stuff, looking good!
-
Jason, The fronts are 205/75-15's on 4" or 4 1/2" wheels. Yea, having the wife WANTING to go racing & spend money on a hobby vehicle is a real benefit. I bought her new Et Street radials for Christmas ;D Back in the summer I had to tell her "Not this week" a few times, she was killing me in gas money...It took $100 round trip to the track. Her solution...Go on Saturday, stay over night & race both days, come home on Sunday. "Hey, it's half the cost of going back & forth" ??? I guess I'll deal with it ;) Lorne
-
Got some work done and or started this weekend. The truck really doesn't have rust issues other than the floor pans. So, started working on that this weekend. Here's a few pics of the driver side. The pass. side had a little bit more chesse holes going on but here's a few pics (of the driver side). Didn't take pics... but got both sides in and got some clean up work to do to finish her up. Not the funnest thing to do on a weekend but it had to be done...LOL! :o

-
Amazing truck man, just wondering if you have any pics of your bucket seat bracket setup with out the seat on it. Im thinking about changing my bench for racing buckets and wanting to get an idea on what I have to fab up.

Thanks,
Sorry, but I don't have pics of the seat brackets. The guy I got it from had done that race seat. I pulled it out the day I got it and don't really recall how it was! Sorry I'm not a big help with your question!
-
Ok thanks man. i was just trying to get an idea lol
-
This might be a weird question but do you happen to know the paint code off that truck. My old man got a 79 chevy from his dad about 20 years ago that same green, 1/2 ton straight 6, 2wd, 3 on the tree..great little truck but anyhow i miss that truck so i've been thinking about painting mine that same green. Nice truck BTW.
-
Very nice!!! Was wondering want the power plant is going to be? Your bud's engine would look right at home nestled between the wheel wells. Again, great job.

A big blocks in the plan....a "489" at this point. It changes daily...LOL but that seems to be what I keep going back to. Yeah, I'd like to go "blown" at some point but going N/A first.
I'm really diggin your truck!! I saw it on the other chevy boards awhile back and LOVE IT!! I might have a few questions for you down the road...seeing how your down with the whole "prostreet" look as well. Glad to see your on this site!!!!

Sorry bro,
I have no clue! That's how it was when I got it. I could maybe email the owner before me and see if I get a reply on your question if you'd like!?

When your ready to build your 489 - 505 let me know I send you a complete parts list and prices that I used for my 489 and my 505. If you are going to put together a BBC from scratch (score a bare block only) its not too much more to put together a stroker engine. They make a off shore cast 4.25 that's good to 500 horse all the way through forged american that will handle anything you throw at it.
great looking truck cant wait to more progress ;D
Thanks
Dan

Thanks Dan,
Good to know……
The only thing I have for my motor as of now, is a block that has already had the machine work done to it. All the other stuff is up in the air at this time…..LOL!! Been playing with Desktop Dyno just for fun and that will get you off task in a hurry!

You talk to Adam way to much....and or maybe I do!?!? Yes, I've been off task.....besides it been kinda hot out lately so I've been taking a break! Tell Adam to worry about his turbo project and tell him (or if he reads this to build a real motor)......LOL I'm only playing, not hating!

i had this truck for 15 years, since i was 15, and would like to keep tabs on it if you know what i mean...lol
i am not sure what the color code is, but when i got it the green was a bit darker and didnt have the metal flakes. i had it painted in '93 and had them lighten it a bit and add some metal flake.
keep us posted man, its gonna be a beast!

Any updates? I remember this truck back when jshouse had it. It was nice. He had a LS1 in it I believe and some 17" torqlites on it. When do you plan to have it on the road again?
