Title: Power steering
Post by: Bondobob on February 24, 2009, 02:14:34 pm
I have fluid in the pump and the belt is not slipping but sometimes at low speed, like when turning into my driveway,  I lose my power steering on my '82 4x4 with a snow plow on it.  Not always.  The clutch is dis-engaged and the motor is idling.  Is this normal, bad pump, bad box, or...?

Do you have a hand suction pump thingamajig? Suck the fluid out of the reservoir, refill it with Marvel Mystery Oil. Run it for a few hours, suck it out again and refill with ATF. Had an 81 Jimmy that used to do that, the Mystery oil cured it.

My wife was looking for her thingamajig the other day I think she called it a turkey baster. I lied when I said that I didn't know where it was, in fact I knew where it was I just didn't want her to be dispointed when I told her it had oil in it now. This reminds me to get a new one for her.

If not, you may need some extra gravy next time you have turkey to cover up the after taste.
