Title: engine starts up but dies

i recently got swaped from a 305 to a 350 in my 83 sierra 1/2 ton. it starts up really quick but runs for about 5 secs then dies down, unless you keep givin it gas. i have no clue what the problem is any advice before i have to shell out money to a mech?

sounds like your carb is set too lean

You say it dies unless you give it gas. Is the choke working, and is the idle screw set on the carb?

im not sure and i cant check right now. however the choke light on the dash is on but i dont know anything about the screw
