I know its random, but I was wondering if anyone has a nick name for your truck and the story behind the naming of it.
-
My 76 C3500 is called The Beast
Story behind it
Was taking a retaining wall out at the house. Found out it was 18 inches of 5000 psi cement not block :( after about two hours with a jack hammer and making no progress. My neighbor came out and said use some TNT it was a residential area I said I rather hit it with the truck and a light went off :) . Lined the bumper bolts up square to the wall and started "tapping it" (mind you I had 4300 lbs of cement already in the back from the sidewalk and slab part of the wall) well it was not going good so I backed up a little more each time finally I was far enough back to get it into third (SM465 wasnt using granny gear) I hit the wall at around 25 to 30 mph the wall shattered lol needless to say the load in the back came forward shattering the rear glass and giving me a shower of cement and glass and almost taking the house out with it. Backed her up looked at the front the bumper was a little pushed in but no frame damage and the wall was out :)
-
My neighbor calls mine the MEXI-TRUCK. It's not blue, not a low rider, and the wheels don't stick out 2 feet! Mine is the original Colonial yellow with the cream inset.
-
ahhh frogman that is an awesome story, My brother named my first truck (79 gmc sierra 3/4 ton) Leaky Lucy. She leaked oil from the rear main, coolant from an unknown hole from the top of the rad and brake fluid from somewhere. Got it two years ago for a case of beer replaced the brake lines and rad but she still leaks from the rear main. Picking up an 81 Chevy 1/2 ton and my roommates already dubbed her Lucy 2.
-
Thoroughly un-original, but my 1981 C10 is named Rusty. ;D
-
My yellow truck was already named when I got it. Big Red. Needless to say it was red when I got it. So I still call it Big Red sometimes, lol.
-
Mine is pretty much just called "THE CHEVY" my wife and kids just call it that when they refer to her. Although we have several other cars and trucks at home most of which are GM. My wife's camaro is called "C.C.", my Infiniti is the "Q", my daughters Malibu is "Molly". Ok thats enough, I know we ain't right.
-
call the 82 "the plow truck" cause, well, that's what it does. my 73 i call pepere, cause that's who i inherited it from, still think of him every time i see that truck...
-
uh...oldwhity because well, it's old(oldest vehicle we own) and it's white.
-
mine was called Gracie after my great grand mother because she has been my garding angle through while i was sick i named her that the first day i got her i looked back and i said thats it gracie and she would keep me and the truck safe but i have to say that it never got on the road besides trying to get it inspected so i said this is not working out so i started tearing her down but she has keep me safe through it all and i am sure she will keep me safe when complete.
-
Well now, the names change on my two trucks. It depends on whether they're running good or not. When they're acting up, well I have to call'em "Sombetches".
Actually, those two puppies run great most of the time. I call my Blue 91 Sub the BluBurb. I call my green 79 Big10 383 stroker the Green Monster.
-
I call mine Frank because it was my uncles and that was his name.
-
The 73 Stepside 454/5speed truck is "Su" short for Suicidal Tendencies. It goes back to when I was 19 and was talking to a friend of mine with his mom overhearing him say I am going to raise this Jeep way up in the Air so I can run over other vehicles and I jokingly said I am going to drop mine low enough to go under them. His mom responded "You two have suicidal tendencies".
The website truck 1987 R10 6.0L/4L80E with 2 turbos is "Skippy". reason was my wife drove my brothers truck one day to pick up some food. It had a 5.3L with a turbo on it making 450hp/600lb/ft. When she came back she told us something was wrong with his truck because it was skipping. My first thought was great, she just trashed his truck. When I dug deeper to find out what it mean she said when she got to the end of our road and turned left she stomped the gas and it started "skipping" sideways. When I told her the 87 should be making about 750hp she asked if it would do what his truck would. When I said yes she said we should call it Skippy.
90 Suburban doesn't have an official "name" but I sometimes call it the Mo'hannasBurb. The work Mo-hanna is a Hawaian word pronounce ma'hanna (we went to Hawaiii to get married and when we came back I was stringing words together to be funny. I sometimes call my wife puppy, so the whole string is Pupples-Mohannasburg-lettuce-chicken-eater-smurf. Mohannas-burg came from iceberg lettuce and then it got changed from burg to burb. All in the same story my daughters name is Elizabeth Hanna, but I call her Mo'hanna and it is "her" burb.
-
It won't let me type my trucks name...lol
LOL, Mine too! Let's just say James Dean had a very similar name for the Porsche that he died in.
-
DoWnWiTdAsIcKnEsS! Because to do, what we do, when we build our toys! It must be some type of sickness! Plus i love that song from Disturbed!
-
All of mine have names
85 K1500 extended cab (Big Red)
86 GMC extended cab (Stretch)
86 Chevy Extended crew (The Boss)
01 Chevy crewcab Dually (Casper)
76 Chevy choptop (choptop) I worked hard on that name (LOL)
76 Chevy swb (junk truck named by its previous owner. Not a single panel matched, and 20 pounds of silicone filling the holes in the floor)
51 Chevy p/u (Elmer- just looks like an Elmer to me)
68 Elcamino ( Christine- back when I was driving this thing regularly, I was the only one who could get it to start, and it wasnt a hard starting vehicle. Everytime my mom got in it, it would not start for any reason. I could get in it, and fire it right up)
Oldyellers:
2000 T/A WS6 (the bird)
81 3/4 ton ( Yeller- aka the mule-color related)
01 Chevy 1500 (Firetruck due to all of the flames on the truck)
50 Dodge Wayfarer (just refered to as the Dodge)
04 Suburban (sub)
Thats not all of them, but I dont want to bore anyone
-
My '82 Chevy Silverado short bed was given the name "Cheby" by my brother and some friends of ours.
The story is, we drove up from the north Houston,TX area to Grand Prarie,TX to buy the truck. When we arrived and saw the truck the owners were Mexican.....I don't mean Hispanic...I mean really Mexican immigrants. About the only thing NOT done to the truck at that time to turn it into a Mexican style low rider was the little "dingle berries" that are usually hanging from the front windshield.....and the exception of a bunch of fiberglass body accessories.
Before we drove the truck back to the Houston area (a 3+ hour drive) we had to go to an Autozone to change out the water pump. While I was in the store purchasing the water pump and some parts, my brother and friends snuck over to the decal section and bought a set of chrome plated plastic adhesive backed letters.
When I came outside to begin swapping the water pump out, I went to raise the hood and noticed something on the front endge of the hood-----the words "Cheby" I couldn't help but bust out laughing.....in fact we all had one heck of a laugh..... because we knew the truck needed to undergo a major transformation to make it something worthy of me driving it.
Thank God the truck ha come a loooong way since I bought it back in October.
-
Call the stepside MEDUSA for the name of the song by anthrax. The black truck NIGHTSTALKER cause its all black like a bad boy wearing all black hunting its prey. The cougar i call her NIKKI cause she was the 1 girl i let get away in my life in my younger days and i keep this car close to my heart remembering her.
thanks
pat
-
Hi Guys, Well I call the 78 Shorty The General Cuz it's orange
the 78 C2500 is Silver Streak cuz its silver
the 89 Crew cab is Rosie after the AC/DC song
the 95 k2500 is Big Red cuz it's victory red
the 85 Elcamino is Radio Edit after a line in
a Kid Rock song and any reference to it
is usually offensive to some
the 98 S Blazer is Champ cuz it's Champagne colored
-
I call my 81 K10 "BIG UGLY"
She's big and ugly...short story I know...lol
-
There are a lot of references to songs being the origins of nicknames. There are a lot of Big Red's and such as well. I couldn't help but to think someone's kid has to have named daddy's red car the "Big Red Car", you guys with toddlers know what I am talking about....The Wiggles...C'mon let your child pick out a name....
Wiggles Big Red Car (http://www.delbridge.net/bigcar.mp3) ;D
There are some vehicles that should be called The Beverly Hillbillies (http://www.delbridge.net/jed.mp3) car
or called SpeedRacer (http://www.delbridge.net/speedrcr.mp3)
Of course, if you have another type of truck (other than a GM product of course) you'd probably call it this (http://www.delbridge.net/bicycle.mp3) because they go about the same speed--downhill.
-
I call my 84 swb "elvira" story goes everyone in are family has some kinda name for there vechical. heck even one of are snowmobiles has the name betty. anway i bought the truck and dad kept asking me what i was gonna name it i could never think of a name. so one day after supper i went up to the shop and was listing to country (my favorite) and the song Elvira came on by the Oakridge boys. So thats what I named her its an old name for an old truck now everytime i pull into parties I get it playing over the subs and all you can hear is "My hearts on fire for elvira"!!! ;D
-
I can't hear the name "Elvira" without picturing an over-the-top performance by a ghoulish hottie wearing pasties with tassels. LOL. I've gotta get that movie.
-
Franken-truck, Its a project thats mostly other trucks and junk yard parts.... it said 75 on the title but it has an 80's box frame and dash pad. i think its a 84!
-
gitty up, ah oompapa, ah oompapa mow mow
hi oh silver, away
sorry, got the tune in my head.
-
My white 85 doesn't have a name, I just know my wife doesn't like it at all. She has got a keen sense of smell and can tell when I drive it. It is running rich cause the carb needs work and everytime I run it, she complains that I smell like fuel... I think the main reason is that it is one of few things of mine that is all mine. She can't drive stick and refuses for anyone to teach her. My 86 is just called Ole Red. Sold my 95 last weekend so in the garage the 86 goes in for its long awaited transformation... To bad for her it is a stick as well, I am all broke up about it... ;)
-
Zeig, call it the Fuminator
-
I had an old green 68 Dodge Monaco 383/A727 2dr fastback when I met my wife in 1987, she called it the Dinosaur... I got my 75 Silverado about a year later... she dubbed it the Eye-Sore.
She has to come up with a new name now that it's purty.
-
She has got a keen sense of smell and can tell when I drive it. It is running rich cause the carb needs work and everytime I run it, she complains that I smell like fuel.
That funny, mine does the same thing. Even though she knows what the smell is she will still ask "What is that smell!!". I just tell her it's called "Old Whity" do you like it? lol
-
uh...oldwhity because well, it's old(oldest vehicle we own) and it's white.
Mine is Whitey... Old Whitey... Or Whitey Chev.
Mostly Whitey but my 7 year ol dcalls it Old Whitey.... For the same reasons.
-

Got me to chuckle...
Night before last I had some solvent out spot cleaning an engine to get the numbers off of it and she came home 3 hours later and asked what I had been doing out there. Separate garages, sealed door with a gasket, just a little Xylene on a rag was all.... I didn't soak anything... She can tell when I need to check the LP in the tank the way the burning gas smells on the cooktop. Go figure

That's funny. Even if you clean your hands real good they can smell it in your clothes! lol

yep, nothing gets by her...
-
My black 82 K20 is called the monster, sometimes the cookie munster but tthats another story hehe.
the name monster came from my 2 year old cousin the first time he saw the truck and said well it looked like a big black monster missing a tooth hehe
-
You could have guess what I call my 78' K20 it's "the dream" , my reason is that I have had a lot of achievements in my life, some that other people may think that is a big thing or a big goal, but nothing I have done has really fullfilled my sense of really doing something. But not this, the TRUCK is my dream, I have spent hours and hours reading and doing some research to build this truck, It was love at first sight, ever since I was a little kid I wanted one of these, and its my first project, from reading posts from this comunity I'm going to probably end up like a lot of you guys and have a collection, the more I see all the things that you can do with these you just cant have one, you need to have several with different body styles and utilities LOL ! ;D
-
you just cant have one, you need to have several with different body styles and utilities LOL ! ;D
We're on the same page! :D
-
Mine was already named "The Green Machine" when I got it.
-
Mine is simply "THE TRUCK" to my wife. When we leave she says " are we taking "the truck" " the car" or " the bike". When i had 2 trucks she would just say "the good truck" or "that old truck" :-\
-
Ole Bluey for now...not sure what I'm going to call it after I change the color. lol
my grandpa's 85 C-20 is "Nightmare". Its midnight blue but it gets it's name by it's brakes. We got it a city auction(I believe) when I was probably 8 or 9. I drove the truck from a young age and the diaphragm in the brake booster had developed a hole in it. all you heard when you hit the brakes was a hiss of air and then SLAM! my dog hit the dashboard many times because of that. lol got that fixed, now front brake line busted and rear's lock up with just a tap of the brake.....bout rolled it a couple times cause of this. lol
Andy
-
now front brake line busted and rear's lock up with just a tap of the brake.....bout rolled it a couple times cause of this. lol
Whoa. I think a better name would be "Dangerous."

FLIPPER!!! :D

I LIKE FLIPPER!!! :D
here are some pics of the first time the rears locked up on dad. it was a bad deal..... :(

This happened almost 2 years ago. I think, still to this day, there is still small rocks lodged between the bead and the rim of the tire. not good.
lesson in this.....MAKE SURE YOU FIX YOUR BRAKES!!!
Andy
-
I reckon my truck is made from all parts '73-'79 hence its called Bitzer (bits of this and bits o' that!!)
-
1982 K10 Short bed....."Bertha"
No story behind it, it just fits.
-
My friend got his daughter calling my 74 ....."the Truckieto"
My other cars
1972 Malibu was "The Fuzzy Car" the plates was FZY for the letters
1967 Malibu was " 1 Lame Trash Pile" back to the plates again
1972 Camaro "the Pickle" it was green, I said I would never own a green car I was wrong.
1971 Monte Carlo "Blue Thunder" it is blue and loud with its 406 SB
1968 Malibu "the Joker or Jester" don't know why it is just what I have called it (when I'm being nice) the James Dean's Porsche name would be good for it too.
The friend who named the Truckieto had a Burban with Frigdeaire on the tailgate (yes it was appliance white) the F in Frigdeaire was like the F on a Fender Guitar (my suggestion).
-
Kinda obvious, but right now she's called "Big Blue". Of course, once she gets introduced to the missus them I'm sure she'll be known as "MY truck".
Then again, in memory of my old 1981 Land Rover Series 3 diesel, I might rename her "Bubba's Revenge II"
:-\
-
Hi Guys, gotta update my list. I just got a White 87 C10 305 F.I. 8 ft bed pickup. It's from Winston Salem N.C., it's a rust free county truck.
I'm calling it Jethro after my hero Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillys. My brother has a red 82 C10 and he calls it Jed.We're kinda the hillbillys of the neighborhood so we had to name them after our kin foke.
-
No real fancy names behind mine
my 82 c-10 is just called -82
and 81 dually is called -3+3
1976 c-10 is called -The lowrider
-
'83 Chevy C10 = The Chev
'86 Chrysler LeBaron GTS = The Baron
-
My 1976 K20 is called the Goat Catcher. Im not sure how that particular title came to be but it has something to do with it being a ranch truck and its from wyoming. its catchy so it stuck i even drew up a logo for it and as soon as i paint the truck im going to have it air brushed on the tailgate and hood. My 83 K5 blazer is named rebel just because its red and white and thats what everybody decided to call it. We are all a bunch of rednecks so all of our vehicles have names. ;)
-
not too origional, but mines called Blue, after the Old School movie, when will farrel yells at the old guy, your my boy Blue!
-
Mine is Emmy, I can't remember why anymore, I think the 2 letters stood for something and the other 2 were for somethings else. Anyway, the name stuck.
My 88 is Eleanor for gone in 60 seconds- you know why. It used to be Christine, but I realized it hated me and was never a problem for people that borrowed her.
-
My 1980 C10 is just simply "PawPaw". Cause it looks like a truck that everyones grandfather would have driven with the ralleys and whitewalls and all. To me though, I think it's about time for PawPaw to get a "heart" transplant!
-
Mine is Bad Karma, as in, the bringer of bad karma.
If you can't park straight, I'll pull real close to so you can't get in (until I get a new paint job).
If you can't merge at highway speed, I won't let you in.
If you sit in my blind spot, I'll tap my breaks and scare you.
If at all possible, i'll take that parking spot you were waiting on.
when I get my air horns installed, I'll pull up close and blow them if you are going too far under the speed limit, or won't turn when there is plenty of room or other general situations :)
-

My wife drives an ambulance and one day while crossing railroad tracks, someone thought it would be funny to blow their air horns when passing in the other lane. I thought it was funny, she really didnt.
-
I got a 84' K20 with a 6.2 we call the Duke, I'm a big John Wayne fan ;D

http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=15598.0
thats my brothers truck story..
mine is simply the "K30"
the one i had last;
This one was called "The Real Deal" believe it or not that name came from a random guy in another car while i was stopped at a red light, he pulled up next to me an vigorously rolled down his window and shouted with excitement: "Hey Man!... That truck is the Real Deal!" I smiled and nodded as I pulled away.. from then on after i told everyone the story the name just stuck.

Is that a rubber duck as in "convoy!"
-
shorty
-
Redneck Rampage. After the video game...Which ironically had 73-87 chevy trucks in it.
-
That game was hilarious! Huuuushpuppy!
-
A guy at work calls my 82 GMC K1500 "The Beast", I guess cause its loud and need a lot of work. Not sure I like the name.
-
Up until last night, my truck was just Ole Blue or The Chevy for obvious reasons. But last night my wife and I were on our way home from shopping and we witnesssed a hit and run accident. The guy who ran was in an F-150 and we followed him down the interstate while on the phone with the cops. We gave them the lisence plate number and followed them for about 5 or 6 miles while giving the cops our location. We hit around 90 or 95 MPH for one stretch. I wanted to run them down the interstate until the Troopers could catch up to us. But the guy finally exited off and hit some side roads and went down a gravel road into a wooded area. It hasn't rained here in weeks so he just vanished in the dust around a blind curve. That's where I stopped because they could have easily dropped someone off (a shooter maybe) to ambush us. We went back to the wreck scene and talked to the Trooper and the local PD and filled out a statement. All in all, a very exciting trip home from Academy. So, instead being being called Ole Blue, I'd like from now on for my truck to be reffered to as "The Persurer".
-
Nice. It's good to let the old Chevy stretch it's legs a little from time to time.
A friend refers to my 82 as the Death Star. It's big and gray and "not yet fully operational".
It doesn't make a lot of sense though when I pull my boat with it, which long ago was christened "The Aluminum Falcon". He also named my garage fridge "Coolio"
-
My '86 is called Earl
...because he's Grey.
My dad used to call his white '81 K5 "White Lightning", but it was more tongue-in-cheek, due to the 305 and all.
-
mines names are camy and the ghost, Camy is the red one it got its name cause in highschool i was pretty much the only guy with an old truck with a cam, so CAMY it was, the grey one is the ghost is something my cousin came up with because since ive bought it, it really hasnt ran much
-
I call mine "Dark Sarcasm"
It just fits my personality, Plus I'm a Pink floyd fan.
-
I've gone through done cars and trucks, some get a nickname. Even better is the ones I have heard from other people what they name there car or rig lol people have funny names and a reason behind it. Mine is Cheyenne simple not funny.. The story behind it I had my dads 78 Cheyenne years back now have another. One of my daughters name is Cheyenne so that's the reason I want to get a picture her next to it she 3.. My older daughter mad thinks I bought it because it says Cheyenne and that Cheyenne my favorite.. Any storys name I like to hear them..
-
When i bought my truck it was called Big Red by the p/o. I painted it yellow, and still called it Big Red. Then when I rebuilt it, and put the vanity plate on I call it Yellow Snow.
-
My truck has had several names, and I think its finally settled on one. At first it was the Valdez. When I was priming the oil pump, I had my buddy(also named kyle, it gets confusing) check for leaks. I started spinning the drill and he was standing next to the truck looking at the top of the engine. I.said look underneath because you might not notice it from above. He kept looking at the top. Then I stopped and told him to look underneath again. He glanced under and said "eh, I think you got a leak". I lost over 2 quarts out of the hole above the oil filter. All over the drive way. Awesome. Then it was called "The Gulf Of Mexico", because it lost all of its oil in a matter of a week, valve cover gasket. And now it is "The Titanic" because it has 2 hugs foot long gouges down the passenger side.
-
The 74 I am building is nicknamed " SHAGGY ". It is because scooby-doo is my favorite cartoon, and when my daughter was young she loved watching it with me, every Sat. morning.
After my truck my wife wants one built for her, so I plan on calling it scooby-doo. I even have back windows murals I made up to put in them. My plan is to have a horn in mine that says the catch phrase " scooby-doo where are you" and in my wifes truck have one that repley's " Here I am shaggy ". Oh course as long as I don't infringe on any copy rights that is.
You never know, maybe I will build one for each member of the investigative team. ;)
-
That cool the horn, and actually giving it the look how old is your daughter now?
-
She is 16 now, and growing up all too fast.
-
The previous owner called my 74 Fiona, cause the kid that owned it looked and smelt like Shrek. I call it Fenway.
-
Cheyenne,
When there is an exact same thread running and another member points that out to you they are helping out everyone by allowing expansion on a topic for members old and new. There is nothing wrong with Beastie pointing out this thread to you. This thread is now merged.
-
My wife calls my 76 Your old truck and my 07 your nice/new truck.
-
My wife calls mine a money pit. but the thing is, i dont spend that much money on it. When I do, she complains im wasting money, but when she rides in it, she asks when this is fixed or when is that is fixed. Its better than a new truck payment since i dont drive it that much.
-
I had planned on calling my '83 c10 rusty, but I couldn't handle just driving it as-is (my original plan). The name no longer fits, so maybe 'ol blue? dunno.
-
my 1980 c-30 crew cab dually is called the pig. when my dad drove the truck home it had a hole in the radiator that would leak under pressure so he drove with the radiator cap loose. well as we were on the way home it overheated the 366 big block 8 times and it sucked down water like a pig. and also since it sucks down gas still with the new heart we had to transplant in which is also a 366 we call the truck the pig. the truck is grey and can do anything you ask of it ive had to pull my moms 18 wheeler with trailer out of the ditch up hill cause she got stuck in the mud. this is why my trucks called the pig. ive seen many good names but i think that no matter what happens to my truck we will still have it known as the pig.
-
Bluto!
It's 2-tone blue w/ blue interior & is a bit a brute like Bluto from the old Popeye cartoon... or it could be named for John Belushi's character in Animal House... either works! ;D

Awesome thread!
My '77 is "Scotty" (Scottsdale badge). Kind of obvious but it was named by my sister-in-law and just stuck.
My old '83 K5 was called "Stinky". Favorite quote: "Pew, Stinky stinks!"
