Title: Researching numbers to find out original dealership?
Post by: 82ChebySWB on March 10, 2009, 02:10:40 pm
Good afternoon, I plan to decode my VIN number tonight (I just discovered this on the main page--THANKS Chris!) and I was wondering if once I have my original VIN number decoded if it's possible to track down what dealership my truck was sold at when new.

Anyone ever done this type of search???

I think it would be really neat to find this type of info out.....

I don't know how to help you but on my 79, the owner's manual still has the saleman's business card stapled to it showing where the truck was purchased.  It ends up being just down the road from where I currently reside, however, the dealership is long gone.

I still have the window sticker and bill of sale and all paperwork on work ever done to my 65 Mustang GT convertible that i got from the original owner in the '80s.

IF they kept records you MIGHT be able to do it, but I wouldn't depend on finding it.

If who kept records? I know the previous owner has owned the truck for 10 years....but no other history at this point is known about my truck.
