I was wondering how many problems I would cause for myself if I put a 700r4 from an 82 4 wd on my 76 c-10 2wd?
-
You would have to tear the 700R4 completely down to swap a 2WD output shaft.
-
Does anyone have diagrams of the 2wd and 4wd. I am trying to understand the difference between them.
Sorry for the newbie questions

The same except the output shaft is shorter on a 4x4 trans.

Swapping output shafts isn't hard if you have a clutch press and know your way around a transmission at least a little bit. Going that far into it, I'd rebuild it and do the much needed mods.

I found a 700r4 from a 2 wd s10 blazer on Craigslist. Supposedly it was recently rebuilt. Would that be the same as one for the full sized pickup?

The S10 has to be from behind a 4.3 V6, the other V6 uses a different bellhousing pattern. All the 700r4 will bolt in to a truck, the TH350 with a middle lenght tailhousing uses the same driveshaft. A 700 from about 88 to 92 are the better choice, they have the best interials for the last of the non-electronic 700's. I got my 700r4 out of a 1991 G10 van and slipped it in an afternoon, my 74 truck had the middle lenght tailhousing so it was a simple trans swap. Oh yea I had to modify the shifter linkage slightly to get to smoothly go through the gears, I bet the later trucks the shifter linkage will work fine without mods cause these trucks got the 700 in 84.

Couldn't I just use the drive shaft from the donor truck?
