Title: Father Son Project 1986 GMC Sierra
Post by: 86sierra on March 25, 2009, 06:08:13 pm
Hey guys im new to the forum but not to working on cars its a long story but my truck is almost done

My dad built a 1937 Chevrolet Street Rod, which took him 12 years to complete! And the entire time he built it, he told me when his car was done we would build a truck together

So no more them 3 months after his car was completed we found my truck. We went to our apt building to do some repair work. Across the street sitting on a front lawn was this old rusted out leaky 1986 sierra. The date was August 3rd 2005

I asked my dad when we were finished if we could look at it, and we checked this thing out from top to bottom. We returned that night with a flat deck trailer, $900 in my right back pocket, and $300 in my left back pocket. He was asking $1400 and my dad bargained him to everything in my right back pocket.  $900! We drove it onto the trailer and headed home.

Once home i drove up and down our farm laneway and ended the night with some one-wheel peels on the concrete floor in the shop.

Then the 'fun' began. Slowly over time i decided what i wanted to do with it after i suscribed to truckin' and   Truck :P

Like any build we have encountered some problems along the way mainly rust
I have replaced both bed sides, half the bed floor and the ENTIRE cab with an imported cab from the southern states
To all you guys that live lower then PA that the have rust issues, i would gladly deal with that then with the harsh Canadian Rust issues ive dealt with.

Welcome from Florida! Your truck sounds like it's a great machine! I adopted my truck around the same time as you did, except it was given to me by my uncle (his old woods truck).

glad to see another father & son project on here, they make great memories  :)

Welcome from Texas.  The 37 is sweet.  Hope your truck doesn't take 12 years to complete, but think of how awesome it would look if it did.
