Title: nv4500 question
Post by: cptn60 on March 26, 2009, 10:33:29 am
Have a chance to buy an nv4500 from a Dodge truck CHEAP.  Does anyone know for sure, is the trans to bellhousing face bolt pattern identical to an sm465?  Also concerned about the bearing retainer o.d. , but I have a lathe, could turn it down if too big.  It would be going in my 83 c3500 behind a 6.2 still mechanical clutch. Thanks

There are 2 versions of Dodge NV's 23 spline and 29 spline and it won't bolt up to a SM465.  You would need an adapter plate or a full bellhousing.  If you plan to keep the GM T-case you would need an adapter for that too, IF it is even possible.  I don't think they are out there, but I haven't looked for them using a Dodge donor.

Well, phooey. Thanks for replying, at least I didn't plunk the money down yet. It's a 2wd anyway so no t/c adapter. Maybe change the r&p instead to get the revs down.
