ok i have a 10 bolt rear end...Was leaking so i took it off cleaned it i put a new gasket in....But i put that red rtv on both sides of the gasket...I got it snug and then waited 24 hours....then i tighten to spec...Then i filled it up....I made sure there was no dripping when i put the cover back on...No rust or nothing...What made it fail? was it the red rtv? and if so what should i use when i change it again...And should i even bother using a gasket? and just stick with a form a gastket?

Where is it leaking? I thought it was my gasket when my 10 bolt was leaking, but it was actually the rear pinion seal. It was dripping by the pinion on the driveshaft and coming down and dripping off at the bottom of the cover.

Make sure the cover isn't rotted. Get a can of the right stuff and just use that. Don't bother with a gasket.

That's what my rear axle shop did. No gasket. Be prepared, TheRightStuff ain't cheap, but it's the best gasketmaker out there.
