Title: big block and drop?
Post by: kustom71 on March 28, 2009, 11:33:55 am
I am about to drop the front of my 84 lwb with spindle and springs but I started thinking If I put a big block in it will I need different springs?Like if I use a 3inch spindle and was gonna use a 1inch coil will the big block drop it the 1 inch or should I still change the spring and see what happens?
Hopefully somebody here can help before I spend money on things I dont need!
Thanx

Seems like I remember reading on here a while back that a iron-headed big block would lower the front about an inch from what it was with a iron-headed small block. I would just try the spindles first and swap in the big block. Hope this helps.

If they're new springs you'd see 1/2" drop

Im gonna use spindles maybe I shouldnt use 3inch spindles?
I would like to replace the springs in there cause they are stock small block ones and I would like it to stiffen up the front suspension any suggestions from those with big blocks?
Thanx

Put your spindles in and 3" will be ok if your wheels and tires will clear. Leave the springs in there and see how it sits/rides. If you don't like it you can always install different coils.
