Hi all, long time listener-first time caller.
I have an '80 c10, v8/auto/2WD shortbed. I ran across a deal on a rear axle from a '95 Caprice Police package w/ disc brakes intact. I haven't been able to find a flange-to-flange measurement for either that axle, or my '80's axle to see if the width will work. The guy says it's not posi, but with the copcar package and disc brakes, I think it has to be, short of checking it out in person. I know it's not a major deal to move the spring perches. Anyone seen this swap done? If not, is there a better complete axle to find that comes with LSD and proper width? What stock unit does my housing take if I just want to go LSD and forget the disc's? Thanks!

As far as I remember the Caprice is narrower for the 95's The 1/2T pickups are 62.5" flange to flange from memory.

62.5", ok, at least I won't have to pull tires and measure mine. Thanks. How do the newer GM truck(with disc brakes)axles compare in width? anything comparable in other makes/models?

You can add a drop in locker to any open diff if that is what you are after. Lock-Rite, Detroit and a few others make a drop in locker for these.

Yeah, but I'm hoping for discs. I'd rather do some fab work and swap in a lsd with disc, so it's more about width and finding a used axle assy. Plus, I'm in Hawaii, so shipping is a major issue...might find an axle here. At any rate, if that doesn't pan out, mines a 12 bolt. Is that 28 spline? How about carrier series? Thanks Chris.
