Hi there ..
I do have a debate with a buddy who owns a '78 K5 Blazer who wants to install two different widths rims ( 8" front & 10" at rear ) .
He claims that it would effect the final ratio when using it offroad ! I didn't think so ...since I know that different total heights will harm the drivetrain .
Any input is appreciated .

Width shouldn't matter, only the height.

Thanks Kenny ...
Just came to my attention ...
Will a set of tires have the same height on different width wheels?

It will not harm the driveline at all. If you had a different ratio in 4 wheel lock you would have big problems on pavement.

The ratio can vary by 1% on a street vehicle and 2% on a offroad only. Width has no effect as long as the height is within reason. You can't run 31's on the front and 33's on the back.
