I'm doing a frame off resto on my 78' fleetside (not to be a trailer queen or anything just a "daily driver/fresh and clean" condition type thing). There's these foam pads (one on each side) in between the front fenders and cab that run vertical/parrallel with the front edge of the door. I would presume they are meant to be a seal of some sort or there for noise reduction or something. Any way mine are pretty much done for and need to find something to replace them with. I've searched the forum and every aftermarket company I could find with no luck. Anybody know where I can find them? Maybe im looking in the wrong places? Or do you guys leave them off or make something else work? thanx in advance.

Not all trucks had them. I have seen them on a few gas jobs, but almost all the diesels had them. I don't bother with them if they are in that rough of shape.
-
You mean the fender escutcheon? You can probably find a good set at the junkyard or look in the classifieds section here. I've seen them in restoration catalogs before too.
-
I don't know of anyone making the foam/rubber sealers for the fender to cowl area. All diesels got them for engine noise reduction and all Silverados had them.
-
Every truck I ever had had them unless someone removed them.
-
All the base model trucks I have gotten didn't have them.
-
My 85 cab had them i removed them and chucked them since they were in bad shape. I just welded up the holes and smoothed them out.
thanks

I've torn apart a bunch of these trucks(mostly 89-91 blazers/Suburbans), they were ale silverados/SLE's and they all had them. Like Vile said, they should be around in the junkyard.
-
I've got a set and was debating on using them. Are they worth it?
-
I think if they're clean and in goodshape they look good, just paint them black.
-
Any idea which catalogs you've seen them in Vile? Iv looked, but havent found much. Thanx

The "pads" we are talking about bolt to each side of the cab, right behind the front fender/door area. You can see the passenger side one in this pic of my truck

I have seen no reproductions of them in any of my catalogs. My 73 has them and they were in great shape so I reused them. I agree with the others, not all trucks had them.
-
Oh ok my bad. I have never seen them before. My 84 K10 does not have them.
-
I'd have to look to see who has them new but try the dealer first. Does anyone have microfiche for our trucks?
-
my uncles '80 had them, he took them out and when u drove the truck on the highway u could this annoying wissle sound,,but u probably dont need them, i eliminated the ones on my 81
-
If you can find who makes them let me know.
If you have them I would put them in...
-
Ive taken apart 2 silverado package blazers and a base model jimmy and havent seen them. I've wanted to get a set for the resto of my truck to tone down some noise but I can't find them. I've searched the junkyards and everything and I can't for the life of me find a pair.
-
I don't see why they wouldn't be on certain trucks unless someone removed them. I think we need to investigate this. I've never had one or seen one without unless they were removed.
-
Keep in my fellas, I think these were only on 73-80's...at least in the size and shape as pictured of the ones on my 73.
And to be sure we are not confusing the author of this thread, his truck is a 78....so try to keep that in mind when you say "I never saw them on such and such".

I have seen them before but on my 79 and 75 ,both bottom of the line custom deluxes, neither of them had them and they were both all orginal, no one ever messed with trucks when i got them.
-
I will chevy my 78 C30 when I get home on sunday Im pretty sure that is a bottom model I will see if they are on there. Can you see them with the fenders and doors on?
-
Every pick up, Blazer and Suburban Ive ever had had them on there. That's why I want to know why certain trucks if unmolested didn't have them, what made them a factory option? And I had them on the following years; 74, 75, 77, 79, 80, 84, 85, 86, 87, 89 and 91

The 1st cab on my 80 was a bare bones truck and they didnt have them or any screw holes as well. The truck didnt even have a dome light for the interior.
thanks
