i have tripod style mirror on my 78 k10 now and i bought two stainless 3 hole mount, most popular mirrors. i want to swap them. has anyone done this kind of conversion before? what is the best way and what are some challenges?
thanks
-
i have them now and to tell you the truth i want to go with the ones that mount on top of the door IMO they give it a more clean look. but I'm sure yours cam with the bolts and plastic clips for mounting right? another thing you have to check out is were you mount them to far low and they will not sit flush with the door.

i didn't get any kind of mounting hardware, bought them off a farmer. i heard that there is a bracket on the inside of the door that mounts to inner skin just for those mirros.
-
I don't know what hardware you need but Chris should be able to help you out or someone
-
There is a bracket that braces the door, but you would have to get it off the truck the mirrors came from.
It is an easy swap except the holes won't be drilled and the inserts won't be in the door.

Pick up some jack nuts at your napa, etc http://www.prifast.co.uk/jacknut.htm
and use the brace like chris said from a donor. Make a trace template off of the donor too so you drill the holes in the correct location.

Here is pic so you can see where to mount them.

thanks for the picture. does anyone know where i can get those brakets that brace the doors. the truck i took them off of 6 months ago is long gone and i can't make a template from old truck. i thought maybe i could buy new from some place.

try a junk yard

The part you speak of is not reproduced. Salvage is your best bet. Someone here may just happen to have one they can spare.
