Title: radio power
Post by: cwilson jr on April 26, 2009, 01:34:41 pm
ever since i had a cd player installed a couple years ago in my truck, the power goes off and then will restart immediately.  it does this on bumps and inconsistencies while driving, but sometimes it will do this on the smallest of bumps and sometimes i can hit the largest pothole and it will stay on.  it is totally random.  i checked the "quick connect" harnesses and the the entire acc. wire they installed and jiggle all of this around, even with the stereo out and can never get it to turn off.  it only does this while driving.  i also have tried different radios.  i'm thinking this would have something to do with a ground, but how would i check this out.  any other ideas?

Check the power and ground wires and make sure you have good clean soldered tight connections. No but connectors or scotch locks.

you could chaise the ground wire and see if its connected, give it a tug and see if it comes out

the harness is connected through the "quick connects" that are pre-made.  a sony to univ. plug and then there's a univ. to gm plug that you plug into that.

i'd say it definately is the ground as it will also do this occasionaly while turning on other electronics in truck such as wipers, blower, etc.  i took the stereo back out, but do not see where the wiring goes to after all the connections. anyone know where i can follow the ground after the harness?

What makes you so sure it's a ground wire? A hot wire shorting will do the same thing. What is happening is somewhere the circuit is being broken momentarily. It could be a fuse or loose battery terminal also.

i just figured it was the ground because of the cutting out with other electronics as well.  i have no idea.  just a thought.  regardless,i would have to follow the wires to the same place, which seem to go behind the dash somewhere.  anyone know where the wiring goes after the gm plug?

Your speaker wires go to the speakers, ground goes to ground, hot goes to fuse panel and battery goes to fuse panel.
