I had my truck in a creek bed trying to get out in reverse. I had no wheel spin and all of a sudden the trans popped and the quit workin, it felt like someone rearend me. I have trans out now and have torn it down to the bottom piston and have found nothing broke, I had a little bit of small metal flakes on the filter nothing big, just serviced about 200 miles ago. the one way roller for reverse is good input and output shafts are looking ok, the only thing no sure on the converter. I took the input shaft and slid it into the convertor and can spin both ways, did the same with the front pump and turns both ways, is that normal if so and at a loss for whats going on????
one more thing right after it happened it had a whine noise in all the gears, also the front pump gears are ok

The stator locks in one direction and free wheels in the opposite. The Turbine is what turns the input shaft so it should spin. So you only lost reverse?
-
i lost everything no forward or reverse
-
also when i would shut the truck off you could hear what sounded like gears or something still turning towards front part of trans just for a sec after the engine stops sounded horrible
-
Is this 2 or 4wd?
-
I took the parts to a local trans shop and it took a trained about ten sec to find the problem. The torque convertor was the wrong one for the trans. I need a lock up convertor the splines on the convertor were only riding on about 1/8 inch of the input shaft and it gave out. I have a convertor on order be here tomorrow.
Input shaft is ok

i just finished her up and seems ok no leaks and she moves again!!
i do have a question i put a stall convertor of 16-2100 and i like how it feels but it doesnt seem to shift as firm in 1-2 i feel it but its different. i have 3 check balls in the valve body 1 is for the lockup and the other i guess whats supposed to be there and the other is on the drivers side back. would this be the modulator or something else

Did you install a shift kit?
-
thats how it was before all this happened, i only drove bout six blocks in town. no shift kit that i know of
-
If you rebuilt it that would have been a good time to do it
