Title: Stereo Install Locations
Post by: Russ130 on April 29, 2009, 01:37:46 am
I'm looking for some ideas of where to install my cd player without hacking up the dash. Pics of different spots would be great too.

if you want to install a CD player w/o hacking up the dash i would say go with a CD changer and put it under or behind the seat

No need to hack. You can easily and nicely fit a cd player in the stock location.

my dash was a nightmare because someone did hack mine up but vile is right you can do it and make it look nice like his but if you ever would like to put a stock stereo back in the stock place you would have problems so if the CD player there is not what you want to do get CD changer thats what i am doing ;)

Only real option for a head unit is to hang it under the dash or in the glovebox where it's not very handy.  Unless you make some kind of center console to put it in.

There are some of the stock replacement radios available with the knobs that you can hook an ipod or usb drive to.  I'd get the one for a usb drive.  I have a usb drive in my truck and it holds way more music than a disc changer can and when searching for songs it functions just like a cd changer would as far as how you work it.

Well Capt. that is exactly the kind of idea I was looking for. Maybe the word hack was too strong but I really do not want to cut my dash to install a radio. If you get them let me know and the cost too. I'd like to find something like that I can plug my ipod into too.

The Ipod adapter is on this page: http://www.casmfg.com/Accessories.htm

I will call my supplier tomorrow and check the price availability.

Ok, I am have a call in with Custom Auto Sound the supplier stopped carrying them.  Still waiting on what it will take to get them added to the catalog and a price.
BTW, based on their site, the Secrect audio is out of stock  As for getting the CD changer, it can be done afterwards from what my supplier said that no longer carries them.

Awhile back I made a roof mounted system for my boss's truck. I wish I took pics of it. It was very simple I made two brackets on the side and screwed it into the roof. and I ran the wires into the roof between the two skins and down the back pillar and underneath the carpet. Worked out excellent. I really liked how it came out I might do it to mine. And another one I did was for a bench seat I mount it too the bench seat above the trans tunnel so it moved with the seat if the seat was moved. Only reason why i didnt like that was cause i couldnt see the screen so i didnt know what station i had on and stuff but it looked good. again no pics fo rthat project either.

If you get one of those kits from Crutchfield it'll cover a lot of the hack.
