Title: How much do you think this truck is worth?
Post by: Russ130 on April 29, 2009, 01:24:52 pm
I'm thinking about getting this vehicle and then parting it out. It is a '76 3/4 ton 4X4. The frame is rotted as well as a good portion of the back. I would have to trailer it around 40mi. or so.

Do you have any more info on it? What motor, trans, transfer case , gears, etc?
If I had to make a guess I would say $250. At this time last year scrap was $240 a ton so junkyards would pay over $500 for our style trucks.
Times have changed and now that truck is worth about $150 at the junkyard so the owner might jump at $250.

Well that is what they are asking for it. Sorry I have no info on motor, tranny or t-case. I do know the plow goes with it.

That looks like a good sized meyer plow, 8' probably?. If the pump/hoist assembly works, that alone is worth more than the asking price of the truck.

well I have been parting vehicles out constantly for the past few months steady like a second job...and I go right down to nothing left. then i go as far as when i scrap it i cut the cab off and all other light iron and usually i can get between 35-65 worth of metal from the light iron... looks like that flat bed is nice too but if i were to scrap the bed and frame i would definetly say a good soild 75+ leaning towards 100. I get 6 cents a pound for #1 steel and 4.5 cents a pound for light iron... I got $14 today at the scrapyard for a hood a pair of doors stuffed to the gills with garbage, some exhause parts and a bunch of small stuff.  That is just the scrap side of the deal. whole plow setup is good at least 300 for it. so if everything else is bad but the plow you there make your money back between scrap and the plow sales. I would be all over it. I jump at any vehicle 500 and under no matter what condition its in. I always make my money back. and at 500 max for parting out i usually break even or make a little profit. goo dluck let me know how you make out.
