Hey, guys i just purchased a nice unmolested '87 k-5 blazer! but it has a bad 700r4 trans.
Anyone know where i can get a good used trans? dont want to spend an arm and a leg, everyone i find here local has a ton of miles on it and they want almost as much $$ as i paid for the k-5!
Now i do have a '91 r1500 suburban with a TBI 350( same as the k-5) and a 700r4 ( my daily driver), but it's 2wd. Will that trans mate up to the transfer case in my k-5? and if so, guess i better get with dropping my 454/4l80e into my r1500 burb, as to have the 700r4 to transplant into my k-5.
I'm just not quite ready to do the engine trans swap in my surburban, yet. was hoping to find an a cheap trans, so i could get my k-5 on the road so i will have a driver while i swap the engine/trans into my burb.
Thanks, Guys...i'll try to post some pics of my "new addition to my "squarebody" family"!!

how much did ya pay for your k5 just wondering, i would check on yoru local craigslist ads if you havent already. I sell all my chevy parts there all the time.
-
The 2WD trans won't work unless you tear it completely down and put a 4x4 shaft in it. Basically what you need to do to the 4x4 trans minus replacing the shaft.

I gave 1000 bucks for the k-5 and drove it 40 miles home ( i just didn't back up!) It's a very solid truck only rust i found on it is a small dime sized place on the pass side door seal just outside of the rubber. The truck had been sitting under a big oak tree for a few years, so i had alot of tree crap to clean off, but its straight as an arrow, paint is actually in pretty good shape, the interior is in better than fair shape, and the TBI 350 runs strong with no smoke or ticks! Think i got a pretty good deal. just need a good trans and i'll be set!

Duallie Blazer maybe? ;D

Why not have someone take that tranny apart & fix it?
-
Thought about havin it rebuilt but every shop around here wants between 1,200 to 1,600 to build it back to stock. If i'm gonna spend that much, i would just get a new, monster, bullit proof one from phoenix transmissions. They have a brand new 700r4 that will withstand 500 horses for 1835.95!
I just didn't want to spend alot to get the k-5 on the road right now, i've got to get my Suburban finished first! Then i will work on getting my k-5 restored and looking good.

Some of us are waiting on that dually sub. Keep us posted. Good find by the way

Why not try and rebuild it yourself? Sounds like fun to me.
-
I'm with Event. If your not going to be driving it everyday it would be a good lesson to learn off of. I would love to be able to take my tranny out and tear it apart and figure out what everything does and put it back in.

got a used trans comin from a local boneyard, so i think i'm gonna take the dead trans and tear it down and try to rebuild it myself. If ti works, great, if not at least i will kno how to tear one down and put it back together!
Still workin on the Duallie burb....got way to many projects right now, at least the ole lady knows where to find me!!
-
haha thats good. how much did the junkyard trans run ya?
-
6 bills for the boneyard trans. found a few cheaper by maybe a 100 bucks but they were not local and if i have an issue with this 1 at least the local yard will make it right, with out me waiting a week or two to get it.

wow to bad you arent up here engines and transmissinos are at an all time low up here its ridiculous. I can't offload either my running 305tbi or carb engine for $100. and 700r4 transmissions when i see them either 2wd or 4wd are 150 and under...i can't compete with these prices when im parting out my vehicles. I sold a 700r4 today i had to take the np208 off it and sold the trans for $75. worked and everything... i wish people were getting more for these giggered parts...
