Wow guys its been quite a while since I've been on here, I have an '03 silverado with an aftermarket stereo which came with the truck when I bought it. Well that stereo crapped out so I found a stock one, but heard it has to be coded to my truck. Anyone know anything about this or if I could do it myself? If so how do I go about doing it? Thanks for any help guys!

I had to replace the one in my 04 and it does have to be coded to the truck. I have a friend who works at a dealership and he done mine for me.

Yea you have to take it to a dealer and have it "coded in" If not, the radio will think its stolen and will lock up

i haven't tried it yet, but i guess it's worth a try?!

thanks guys. hopefully I can find something for an '03 they said its for '02's and older

Tried this before. Just as the others have said, once you plug it in it looks for a GM "code". It's an anti-theft type of deal. I never was able to get it resolved so i just sold it and bought aftermarket.

It needs to be programmed. Find someone with a tech 2 or you are at the mercy of the dealer.
