Title: square slot rallys...
Post by: nogomoto on May 04, 2009, 10:38:09 pm
I have a set of 15x8 5lug square slot rally rims on the 78 right now. I know that GM made the 15x10.... in a 6lug, did they ever make one in 5? If they didn't, does anyone know who has them aftermarket? I only want two 5lug 15x10 with caps and rings.

Rally wheels were never offered in 15x10 from GM.

They were offered in 15x10 but only in 6 lug. I did some searching and found a local dealer who can get them from an aftermarket company. They're a bit pricey, but they are an exact match... with exception to the cap logo.

I hit the link to pricing and all I get is for the 20 series. I need the "c" series and by the way that site looks, the local guy I found is seriously cheaper. $25+ a rim cheaper.

GM never offered Rallys in any lug pattern that were 10" wide from the factory.

What are these?

And why are they on a bone stock 1 owner truck in E-town, KY? How could they have been bought for $600 back in 1980 directly from most any GM parts dept.? Not tryin to be a smartass or anything, but for a wheel that was never made, it sure did end up on quite a few trucks.

I've never seen a factory 10" wide rally either and I worked at a GM dealership too. They may have been available through the parts department but never saw them on any truck stock.

I have ONLY ever had 73-87 pickups from 1988 to now that were mine.  I have been documenting them for 21 years.  GM never offered a 10" Rally wheel or I would have ran across one by now.  The parts department sold parts that were not GM parts or parts availible from GM (dealer bumpers, dealer A/C, dealer striping, dealer wheels/tires, dealer beadliners, dealer sliding windows)  All of these were availible from the dealer and they weren't necessarily GM parts.

In 21 years you would think I would have found a set by now that was stock from the GM, and I have looked and documented A LOT of trucks.

Since you listed it, I noticed on the back of two of my rallys it's stamped 15x6.5. Is that what came on the vans or am I mistaken? I'll have to look again tomorrow and double check.

I've torn a bunch of these trucks apart, never came across any 10" factory rims.

A) those aren't truck rallys
B) I can post a picture of a set of wheels and call them 15x12's.

There were no 10" rallys from GM.  I have had A LOT of people call the 8" 10's and they measure across the OUTSIDE of the wheel and get a number larger than 8" (don't remember the actual number but it isn't 10) and l I turned them over and pointed to the 15x8 on the back.

I made a trip down to the place I was talkin about and talked to quite a few people. Serveral of them were surprised (including me) with what I found. The offsets were different on the 6lug on a friends truck giving the appearance of a wider wheel. I tracked down the guy with the 10" wide rims on the one owner truck. They are NOT GM wheels but were purchased at a building beside the GM dealership the day the truck arrived. A few of the older guys who swore up and down they had 10s said that the rim they had were not a full 10" wide but were more than 8" and that's why they considered them to be 10s... even though 15x8 was stamped in the back.

Good to know. Interesting thread for sure.

I have the wheelvintiques ones on my truck and I like them.  I think I bought mine for $85 a piece.  They are 15X10's.

They look like 15x8s to me, kinda hard to see tell for sure. I think the tire makes them look wider. Here's mine and I know they are 15x8's the second pic are aftermarket but are 15x10s. You can see a difference. I too have never seen a factory 15x10

You guys have me wondering....where do I look on the wheel (rim) for the actual size?
On my 1980 GMC (see pic) I have 15" turbine rims.  They came off a 1976 Firebird Formula and I have 31x10.5 tires on them. Does this mean they are 15 x 10 wheels?

Those are probably 15x7's, if they are marked they will be on the back of the rim.

You must have adapters to get Fire Bird rims on a truck? 10.5 is the width of the tread, can put them on any wheel 7" to 12". They fit the best on 8" to 10" wheels.
