Ok, i've been thinkin it over lately about what kinda rubber i'm gonna wrap my trcuk around. I have a wonderful set of new tires on the stock 16s, very agressive rears and normal steers. Now I was toying with the idea of throwing some big rims like 19s on there those uhm chrome alcoa rims. But if i measured it up correctly it downs look like the rims plus the tires will fit...is there something I'm missing, i've seen plenty of trucks with these huge rims adn tires on their trucks and they seem to sit at a normal ride height. is there something that I might have to do the suspension? And does anyone have a place to recommend to buy these rims if i do decide upon getting them?

You may have to run low profile tires on it, but I have seen several around here with 24's. You'll have to get the adapters to convert the 8 lug to 10 lug, but that is all that I am aware of for the conversion. Too much tire will require a lift, but thats obvious. Upgrade the brakes would be a good idea if your gonna run that much more wheel, but 19s may not be too bad. I prefer a sidewall on a truck that Im gonna work. Saves the rim,tires are cheaper, rims are cheaper and the ride is better.

oh gosh i didnt mean to come off that i wanted 24s gosh no...i meant the 19s or i think 19.5 is the common size now a days.
Kind of like those only without the oval holes i like circular holes like the big rigs.

They come in 8 lug version too so i wouldnt need an adaptor. Would these fit with some decent sized sidewalls without suspension mods? Because if i have to run low profiles i dont think i want them because i dont wanna look like "That guy" i dont like low pros i like meat on my sidewall

Yeah, there's a late model Chevy dually out my way that runs the stock wheels and tires in the winter and 22.5's with low profile tires in the summer. I think you'll be fine with 19.5's and a little sidewall like Chop said.

I hadnt seen the 19.5s that didnt require the adapters. That would be the best way to go in my opinion. I did understand you were wanting the 19s, the others were just references. The 19.5s would prob look ok, but Im with you, I dont like the 24s.
I have seen some nice A/Ts for the 19.5s that would work good for you. There alot of the 4500 and 5500 Chevies and GMC's running around the oilpatch here that run that size wheel. They look good too.

ya capt those are exactly what i was looking for...i saw what looked like an 81 dually pickup running down the street today with them on he was goin the other way so i couldnt stop and ask him. i know those said direct bolt on, but would i be able to run lets say a set of 225/70r/19.5 rubber on those nice 19.5 rims and be able to go lock to lock on my steering? to me it looks as if it would rub on the frame or shock or anything else in there. I would go talk to a tire professional but the only ones around here are Town Fair Tire, Pep Boys, Firestone and they only really deal with the cars I dont think they would be able to answer what i want to know. Or have something they could mock up and take a good look at it.

Is your truck a 4x4? If so, these should fit with minimal clearancing. Like Choptop said, that size is pretty standard for medium-duty trucks (typically Load Range F, pretty stiff). Tires are readily available from Michelin, Goodyear, etc:

That would be about a 32 inch tall tire, and almost 9 inches wide. It may be close.

sorry my truck is only 2x4, 1985 C30 dually. 9 inches is a bit wide my truck doesnt sit as high as a 4x4 does.

Keep in mind that the 9 inches is section width, not tread width. Tread width will prbably be closer to 8 inches depending on manufacturer. A 225 tire is far from stock. If your truck sits as high as a 4x4, then you may very well be able to fit the tire. I dont think the concern will be with the width, as a 235 tire is just over 9 unches, and I know they fit fine. Its the heighth you are needing to clear.What size do you have on it now??

Right now I'm running 225/75/16. and my uncles other truck right next to mine if youve sen the pics i have posted before, another 1985 C30 2 wheel drive is running 235/85/16 and it sits much taller. ya i keep forgetting tire stuff sometimes i thought the 9 inches was tread width for a second there. Thanks for reminding me. :-[

Too put things in perspective, your tire (225x75/16) are just over 29 inches tall.
The 235x85/16s are 31.72
The 225x70/19.5 are 31.90
If the 235x85 16s fit, then the 225x79/19.5s would fit as well as they are only about 1/8th of a inch taller.

wow, thats kool. thanks for breaking it down for me chop. now all i gotta do is finish up my resto and pick up some rims. my dad gets 220/70/19.5 tires used from work all the time...like with 30-50% tread left on them i can run those to see how everything works...his lug patterns are much different so i cant just bolt it on and see.

I cant take the credit for figuring it out. Thats a formula I found about 12 years ago and have just kept around. You can search tire claculation on google or ? and find more ways to calculate it, but this is the easiest formula to me.
