Title: 1983 3/4 ton truck.....What should I do?
Post by: grinder1989 on May 09, 2009, 07:27:20 pm
The truck has a 14 bolt, 700r4 tranny, and a 305.  Should I take the suspension and rear end out and swap it with mine?  The truck is going to be a winter beater, I don't care what happens to it.  The 83 is a long bed and my 74 is a short bed 1/2 ton.

Hmmmm. A shortbed 3/4 ton. Might look pretty cool even if it is a beater. Question is, do you need the heavier suspension components?

No the 83 will be the beater, my 74 is going to slowly be restored and ran at the track quite a bit.  I figured the 14 bolt would be useful once I got the big block put in.

I think the weight would offset the benefit. Many are running to 10 bolt with no problems.

Indeed but I have a 12 bolt and it's not a posi :(  But either way, for $425, it's still a good buy.
