Title: Where to find a good rearend for my k-5 blazer

Hey Guys,
 I need a good used rearend for my K-5 blazer. The one in my truck took a dive, and i have never rebuilt a Diff. before.
I was thinking i would find a used one cheap and just swap it out. I have a 3.42 gear in mine.
 Having trouble finding one around here, and the one i did find had 200,000 miles on it and they want my first born son for it!

Hey stow I tried to PM awhile back to see how that bracket worked out for you but your mailbox is full. Too bad you dont live closer i could hook you up with a rearend of mine, heh heh mine are 3.08 ratios though. send me a PM when your mailbox is empty.

By definition, a K 5 is the 4x4.

As far as replacing the rear end, I'd reconsider.  If all that happened is that the ring gear stripped some teath, I'd just replace the gears.  If you have your hear set on replacing the axle, I recommend cruising locally and finding a K20 or 30, preferably one with a salvage title or no title, or even one with a blown engine or tranny.  You probably won't pay much and you'll be able to upgrade both axles to beefier units.  I'm in the process of doing the same with my '76 K5.  I purchased a '83 K20 for $600.  This netted me some much needed interior parts, a FF 14 bolt, a 28 spline 10 bolt front, and a NP205 (goodbye NP203!).

then whats the 4x2 called  ;) we all ready been over this a while back i thought a 4x2 would be c5 but its not its a k5

According to GM's nomenclature, it is a C5.  The C in the VIN stands for 2wd, the K for 4wd.

well then wouldn't the k5 =k5000  for like a 1 1/2 ton or something like that lol

It should, if you think about it.  GM does some wacky things.

All Blazers are labled as K5's regardless of their drivetrain configuration.  K5 = Blazer and can be had in 2WD or 4WD from 73-82.

By GM's Nomenclature they are C10/C1500 or K10/K1500.
