Title: Has anyone ever have to open up the notch on their torque converter?
Post by: 82gmc3/4ton on May 30, 2009, 03:54:10 pm
I've been having problems trying to set my new converter.  I measured the pump gear notch and the new converter is .055 smaller than the one I'm replacing. Has anyone else have this problem? If so how did you fix it? Thanks

I was helping a friend put in a new converter once and we ran into this problem. Since the notch is wrong it would be hard to assume everything else was fine so we returned it and got a new one that fit fine.

I would return it also, depth plays an important part in it too.

If it doesn't engage replace it. You could file it down but if it's new why bother. The machinist was too busy eating an egg sandwich to care about tolerance.

I was afraid of that. You all make great points. Thanks.
