Title: questions about lift
Post by: sk8erdude36 on May 31, 2009, 05:26:33 pm
so i have a 74 k20 and i would like to put an 8'' lift and a 3'' inch body lift. ive been reading and it sounds like you cant do an 8'' lift without getting a new driveshaft. do i need a new shaft or will s spacer do the trick. and whats the largest size tires i can get on this thing?

You should be able to clear 40"s no problem. What do you mean spacers?

with 8" you will need new shafts with 6" you sometimes need a little mod pretty much due to joints binding up. do you plan on cutting your fenders? buddy of mine only had 4" on his blazer but he cut the fenders with 38's

Do you mean a driveshaft spacer? Never heard of one, but that sounds like a bad idea to me. Just spend the $$ and have a driveline shop extend your shafts. I had both my driveshafts extended a few months ago for like $150.

You can't use a spacers on a GM truck.  You need longer driveshafts.

alright well i think im gonna go with a 6 inch lift instead. 1-because of price and 2-i dont want to have to mess with drive shafts. so 36 or 37 sizes tires shoudl fit??

Don't forget to get longer brake lines. Also, you may need longer shafts with a 6" too. I can't remember but someone will chime if you do.

Also, you'll need to loosen the filler neck on the gas tank(s) and cut the bottom of your fan shroud for the body lift.
