does anyone know anything about mazda mx-3's? because i have a 93 with a 1.6 5spd and a couple months ago it started making knocking noise(not the engine) at first i thought it was the driver side cv shaft, i was thinking maybe the teeth were getting stripped, but i looked it better and now i know its with the passenger side, but i dont know if the teeth are getting stripped on the cv shaft or inside the tranny....can anyone help me with this problem?
-
I figure it would be the cv joints, not the tranny splines. Does it do it mainly when turning or straight. Should be more noticable when turning, if so, then most likely its the cv joints.
-
iv haven't heard of the spines going but i guess it possible and is it more a click than a knock. also pop the hood and lock the ebrake then try to move forwards and then revers see how much the engine move it could also be a motor mount
-
its only when im taking off, going slow, and turning....when i shift into a different gear (2nd into 3rd) it doesnt do it at all thats why im guessing its the cv shaft
-
It's probably just a bad cv joint.

if its the cv shaft im not gonna sell it but if its the tranny yes im gonna sell it...the cars got 180k miles and still runs great (1.6 4 cylinder) so it doesnt surprise me that the cv shaft is bad...i wish i had the v6 tho

The 1.6 engine sounds funny to me. My motorcycle had a 1.8 in it and was only a twin. Just cant get used to the small cars, nothing against them, I just cant get adjusted to them.
-
ya the 1.6 has no power at all but the 1.8 v6 has quite a bit more power and can actually move the car lol
-
I used to have the V6 it was a 93 auto... thats why i know its so expensive to repair, it is a very fast fun car. But at the end of the day its not really worth the money.

ok im about to just take my car to the crusher or something...because i just put a new cv shaft in today then test drove it....and now the problem is worse the car doesnt move(it sounds like the teeth are stripping out) any help?
-
Well does the axle turn?
-
thats what im going to find out today

I had a '87 Mercury tracer (which was just a re-badged Mazda 323) with a 1.6 liter 4-banger under the hood. Thankfully it was a 5 speed as the car was a 5 door hatchback. According to Wikipedia it had a whopping 82 horsepower, but I put plenty of paper horsepower on the back end to help make up for it. :)

listen to me!!! Get rid of it!!! :o
