Title: Power window and lock swap

I am buying a 83 4x4 that has power windows and door locks and i would like to swap then to my 86 which has manual windows and locks.  I will probably swap doors and all because i plan on painting the 86 soon and making the 83 a farm truck/toy.
   How much trouble is it to run the wires to make this work, or swap the wiring harness from the 83 to the 86? Which would be easier, etc.   I am sure plenty of people have done this here before, so i need all the input possible.

  I will also be swapping the tilt wheel from the 83 to my 86.  How much trouble is that?

The power section is a seperate harness.  You have to drill a hole in the door post for the factory harness to pass through along with the door.  if you ware swapping doors that eliminates one of the holes.  Other than the hole, it is pretty straight forward espeically if you swap doors.

You need to snake the harness from the cab through the side to get to the door post. That, to me would be the hardest part of the swap. A new hole in the sides behind the dash may be required and it's tight access even after your get all the stuff out of the way.

Thanks for the info. That confirms my theories on the windows.    If i decided to swap the internals instead of the doors how much trouble is that?
    Also still need info on the steering column

The issue you will have on an 83 column going in an 86 and vice versa is the 86 has the wiper on the column, the 83 has it on the dash.

Swapping the whole door is allot less work than swapping all the guts out in my opinion.

When did they move the wiper from the dash to the column?
