I have an 88 Crew Cab with 6.2L Diesel. I went to the parts house and told them I had an 88 but it does not show the 6.2 option or Hydrolic brakes (getting new pressure and return hoses for brakes). My question is: Can I tell them it is an 87 and not have any problems? Can I tell them it is an 87 in the future without having any fitment problems with standard servicing of the truck (filters, belts, hoses, etc.)?
Thanks,
Levis

See if they are checking for a C-K truck or an R-V truck, a lot of parts books will list them seperatly with different engines

Pressure and return hoses for the brakes? Do you mean for the hydro boost? Like Jay2d2 said make sure they're looking up an R for 2wd or V for 4wd.

I found what you need here: www.rockauto.com
The lines you are looking for would be under the steering category. While navigating their catalog don't use the back button.
Your search should go like this:
Chevrolet > 1988 > R30 (I guessed at this, but fill in your application) > 6.2L 379cid V8 Diesel MFI (J) > Steering > Power steering pressure hose
For the return lines just change the last selection to "Power steering return hose." But you should definetly be able to find this at your local auto parts store.

I told them R and the guy looked at me funny because of the year. I think I got someone incompetent.

Yeah for the hydro boost

I was able to pull it up on NAPA if I put in 87 instead of 88. They are the same lines I found for an 87 (or appear to be)
Thanks guys

The 87 will work for what you are looking for, but they should be able to pull up a R/V 88-91 pickup...
