i am right there with you Rusty. Salvage yards are my toy stores. I go there with no particular goal, just to browse around and take things apart, if just to see how things are put together and learn from it. Then I go to my truck and do the same thing. ;D I can't tell you how many alternators, starters, distributors, etc.. i have for my trucks stashed in my garage right now.

I love junk yards as well. I have two not to far from me that still deal with older stuff. Plus one buys scrap metal so I make a run there about once a month for that. I always browse around. Last time I came home with what I am thinking is a TH475. A heavy duty TH400, have read about them before. They have strait cut gears more like a standard. Came in medium duty trucks C50 / C60's, / busses / older motor homes, etc. This one has about a 3" deep pan, and a drum brake emergency brake bolted in place of a tail shaft housing. Looks just like a half ton drum brake set up. Those are what caught my eye as those are what the article I read years back said are tell tail signs of a TH475.

Courious about the th475... I got what I thought was a rebuilt th400 20 years ago to put in mine. But it has a factory 3in pan and a tapped hole in the tailshaft. Could this really be a th475?

Being a packrat, I can relate to the toy store thing.
I wont even own a car but if I see something neat like an old 50s/60s pickup or car I have to find something neat to get off it.
I also think you can never have too many of the same part either. Especially for cars I own. I have 3 extra gauge clusters for 73-87 right now as well as a few climate controls, few extra washer bottles
I wish I still lived a half hour from Speedway outside of Granite City. I used to go there once every week or two. Theyve got a good selection of all sorts of stuff from f-bodies, to GM van/truck section, gm car section. Carry all soprts of different brands from Hyundai, Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Pontiac, Olds, dodge, chrysler, vw
I dont know how long its been since theyve updated their site but iirc it used to say something about having 4000+ cars in stock
Ill get random stuff to upgrade/retrofit cars I have. Last week, besides the truck parts I got, I also picked me up dual horns from a 97 taurus to put in my corolla. Thing sounds like a toy when you lay on the horn.
