Well, this is going to be a reallyyy slow project, but atleast I have a good platform to start with!! 1987 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd 305 tbi with a 700R4 tranny. My goal is to have a nice streetable cruiser with plenty of power under the hood to play at the track when I want to. I need to strip the front clip off and get the fender replaced and straighten up the front of the frame, as the guy who owned it before me wrecked it, as you can tell. The radiator support needs changed out, and a few odds and ends on the front end. More updates as I get the money for parts.

Well, I made some progress on the truck, I got the passenger front fender off, straightened the radiator support out, and started to take the front bumper off. On another note, I found out the frame is bent a lot worse than what I thought, so it looks like I am on the lookout for another frame! Atleast this way I can do the truck right, go through it all and replace all the body mounts with polyurethane bushings, new paint, painless wiring harness, new motor, etc. pictures to come!

Well, I found a frame I am going to pick up this weekend. It is a short bed frame so I am undecided on if I want to get a short bed or a stepside bed, any opinions on this? I also went and got a 400 sbc yesterday, so I am ordering a new 18 circuit wiring harness from painless wiring next week. I also have cab corners and rocker panels on order as well.

if your just going for looks step would be better according to allot of people but i personly like the fleet side its a smother look

Great start! Keep us posted on the project.

Cowboy,
I have a lwb 82 GMC that I started building for my youngest son(now he doesn't want it....so it's mine now!). It's blue like yours and I swear the interior dash picture is excatly like the picture I took of mine. You would think they are the same truck.
-
cruz, thats awesome! I hope your project comes together a little better than mine!! Although I am just getting started on her, I have big plans!! Keep me posted on your progress!
-
Well I see you've already started stripping it down to transfer to the other frame. I would go with a fleetside bed, flows alot better in my opinion.
-
Well, I have found a little time to work on the truck some more. I got the inner fenders off of it, all the wiring under the hood disconnected, the radiator, radiator support are off, and the motor and tranny are coming out in the morning. I will have some more pictures for you guys soon! Next thing is finish taking out all the wiring, taking out the seat and steering column, and the cab and bed are coming off!
-
As promised, here are a few pictures. The motor and tranny are out, and I need to finish taking overything off the firewall and taking my steering column out.

Here are a few pictures of the frame damage. It isnt horrible, but it is bad enough to warrant me swaping to a new frame. Plus, I would rather have a short bed ;D

Your pix didn't show up
-
they should be working now
-
WOW :o
You guys are moving fast.
-
If I had all the parts here that I needed it would be moving along ALOT faster lol
-
No pictures this time around, but I got the drip rails taken off and ground down the holes flat with the cab, and I took a wire brush to teh firewall to get all the crap off of it. Tomorrow I am gonna try to weld up the holes in the top, and I am thinking about welding up the "seam" across the back of the cab. Lots of work to go, but it will all be worth it in the end!! 8)
-
Here are a couple pictures from this morning, I hope to have them welded up by tonite, we will see how things go.

No real progress lately, just doing little things, like finishing up what is left of the bodywork on the cab, and I sold what I wasent gonna use of the "leftovers" from the truck. Saying goodbye :(

Surprisingly, I got the best mileage out of my dodge that I have ever gotten, 23MPG , I was impressed!!
