Title: painting OEM rally rims
Post by: p7387 on June 19, 2009, 01:12:36 am
looking to clean up and paint a set of 15x8 rally rims on a budget, where is the best place to buy paint specifically for these and what type should i ask for? looking to keep the color OEM. assuming the paint is a spray can i would just be cleaning and scuffing the rims up, any need to use primer? it's not a show truck so i do not need to go crazy.

thanks

Eastwood should have the paint.  It is called Argent.

Here it is. Anyone ever used it? If so, will the wheels look this color, and have this level of gloss?

Same stuff from Eastwood  http://www.eastwood.com/silver-argent-rally-wheel-paint-set.html
And yes it looks like factory when you paint them.  I know serveral people that have used it.

Happen to know if they have a gloss for wheels? It would be cool if you had they factory color, but a little glossier. lol just my taste i guess. Oh here it is:

Now that would look cool! Now the next question is, what's the best way to strip down the wheels? Acid vat probly? Maybe sand blasting? What would you do?

If they aren't rusty I would use chemical paint stripper. If they are rusty, sandblast or electrolysis.

If it's not a show truck and not too worried about "factory" color( not that the average person could tell anyways), go to Walmart. It's around $1 a can. Degrease the wheel really good, scuff it up and shoot. It wouldn't hurt to prime it. If it doesn't turn out you wouldn't have a lot into it.
If you have a NAPA, they may carry something close also.
