Title: How to Remove Window Scraper
Post by: treepete on June 21, 2009, 12:47:20 pm
Hey guys, happy fathers day.

Umm I got some new outer window scrapers for my 83. Im wondering the best  method to remove the originals. On the new ones, all i see is a small metal clip every 8 inches or so, and they look to press straight in from above ( the same way the window travels.)

I cant get the old ones out. I dont mind if the originals get ruined, cause they are all peels and crumbly anyway.. can I just muscle them out?

thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

Pete

Not sure what you mean by scrapers. Do you mean windshield wipers? If so it's just a little pin that you take out where the arm meets the wiper.

They are a bear to get off sometimes, but just keep working with it.  You might bend the old one's up, but you said you didn't care.  The clips hold pretty tight...

window scraper for me is the felt part on the door, where the window dissappears into the door. Mine are gone, and if I were to take the truck outside or something, and it rained, the rain would run down the window and inside the door. not that I would take it outside or anything though. :)

So yeah. I think Ill just try to pull on it with something. I just dont want to mar the paint.

thanks for the advice.

Roll the window down and grab ahold of it and pull it up rolling it a little towards you.  The  clip on themselves through the hole.

You're standing inside the door when you do this. Each clip has a little hole, work them off one by one.

ok guys, thanks for the replies. Ill try that when I get home today. I have been approaching it from outside the truck. I think Ill stand inside the door and see if that works.

You can stand either side... was just clarifiying what "towards you" meant. Outside will be "away from you".

ok i figured it out. for me, the easiest way to get this clip off was to use a linoleum knife. its hooked in such a way that you can get under the clip and pull upward until it breaks free, and thin enough to get down into the door like a slim-jim.
so yeah, it mangled the stock pieces but they came out without a struggle.

the new scrapers went in easy and fit awesome. good as new,
 thanks for the help guys.
