Title: Original OEM Wheel/Tires Combinations
Post by: HookedOnReefing on June 24, 2009, 11:54:58 am
Looking to change my wheels and tires from the typical steel wheels with hub-caps into something else.

Did any of our 73-87 trucks come originally with a more appealing set of rims? Any pictures?

There were different options offered by dealers. So far what I've seen were the spoke wheels, ralley wheels, hurricane wheels & aluminum slots. The round hole aluminum wheels came later... can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Do you happen to have any pictures of them?

I see you have two 3/4 ton trucks listed. There were no fancy wheels for 3/4 tons in the 73-87 series. I have seen photos of several trucks with 99 and up aluminum and steel wheels and they look prety sharp.

mine had the wagon wheels or sport wheels not real sure what they're called.

I found these for it as these look like they could have been a stock wheel.
they are also very affordable

Here is the thread on my wheels on my 3/4 ton. They look a lot like the factory optional alloy wheels used on the 1/2 tons from about '80 and up.

Here is a pic of the factory alloy wheels on a 1/2 ton 2wd someone posted on here a while back.

There was nothing fancy for the 73-87(91) 8 lugs.  New model ones work great though.

These are Hummer H2's on my Crew Cab:

A set of later center caps would look good on those H2 wheels. I looked at a couple sets of those for sale at fall Carlisle last year. I didn't have enough coin on me and I decided I didn't want to fork out the money for 17" tires, LOL.

These are exactly the types of wheels I like. Modern "bling-bling" type wheels Just don't do it for me on old trucks 8)

CaptKaos, that's a NICE truck you got there!

FarmallGray, don't you really mean Farmall/International Red ;)

Keep the pics comming!

Hooked,
Before they were red, they were gray (and Farmall red was already taken on the first tractor forum I joined). They were changed for the 1937 model year.
I have two IH tractors that are gray and they are my favorites. (some people think its because at 40 I have mostly gray hair :-)

Cool! I did not know that FarmallGray.

I have a few Farmall/Internationals my self:  2x 560, 806, 1066, and the venerable 1566.

x2 on what Capt said. Look at late-model trucks. There are tons of factory options out there...

Just be careful of the 99-newer Ford wheels... The bolt pattern is not the same.

Not OEM, but here's what the 2001 chevy HD steels look like on the truck.

See, I like all these "understated" "simple" wheels on older trucks ;D. On a new truck I don't mind seeing something more flashy if it's strictly a street use truck unless it's a 4x4 then it just looks a little silly imo. But on older trucks, regardless the use,  I think flashy bling bling type wheels just look weird. Even when they're lowered, performance tuned, custom painted etc, still looks funny imo.

Keep them coming!

Those center caps make those wheels look MUCH better! Normally I don't care for wagon wheels but yours look great.
