Title: 83 short project
Post by: DFAA on June 24, 2009, 05:39:29 pm
Hello, new around here, have enjoyed lurking so figured I would post some pics.

83 SWB I have been working on for some time. Interior is almost done, runs great, just need exhaust to get it street legal. Started with a new wiring harness and went from there.

4-bolt 350, nothing too crazy. (flat tops, comp cam, shaved the heads a bit, air gap, etc.)

Seats came out of an 2006 Lincoln Zephyr(MKZ?) Fit great after making a few brackets. Full power, plus heat and cool. (havent gotten the heat and cool to work yet, need to find the factory door switches)

Center console/seat from a 2009 Silverado, fit perfect with minor trimming of brackets.

Thanks,

Yea, seats are great, nice soft leather, perforated cushions, very comfy.

as far as paint goes, my original idea was the GM color Medium Spiral Gray (2004-ish corvette, possibly others). Now my wife is trying to talk me into the 2009 vette color Cyber Gray. Either way it will probably end up some kind of darkish gray.

I thought i would post a picture of mine as it is gray.
it is currently being painted '03 mitsubishi thunder gray. It will be dark gray almost black with a metallic bc cc paint. watch for a post in a couple of weeks as it should be done about a week after the 4th. look for some new pictures then if you are interested. It is hard to find pictures of the darker grays. best of luck to you it looks like a nice project

Thanks 1HI, will do.

1980, very interested in seeing pics when you get it back from paint.

OB9,
I just used a stock bezel, cut the holes out, then had to make the holes in the aluminum insert/cover a bit bigger.
Then added a set of auto meter ultra lite gauges, pretty much it.

Your Truck looks great!

I wondering your Truck's radiator support had factory duel or single headlights?

I like 1980 front end looks great into 1983 Truckin'

I'm looking for like your bucket seats with center fold console bench one is for my 1984 GMC with SWB but I can't afford to get a newer 2009 seats for her.  :-\

What year of Truck's bench seats will fits mine? I can afford to get one if under year 1997 full-sized Chevy Truck or Suburban? Let me know, thanks.  :)

Thanks GMC_,

I believe it was factory dual, though I may be wrong.

As far as bench seat, I honestly couldnt tell you. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge can answer that.

I see you had a subwoofer in between the two seats before you put the new one.
What size was it? I would like to do the same to mines.

Thanks Oldwhity. Worked my ass off on that interior. Most of the work you cant even see, it has 2 layers of dynamat type sound deadening, plus liquid sound deadening on top of that. Solid.

Topnotch, I was able to keep the sub in there even after putting in the center seat/console. Its an Infinity Reference series 10in. sub.....

I really need to find a smaller box for it though(not so deep), the center seat sits a little farther forward than I would like.

Oh aight thanks. I had a 12 punch sub in mines but it didnt fit in between so i just had it in the passenger side. Your idea is good ima go for the 10 inch.
But did yours sound good when you had it in there?

Yea, it sounds just fine, I will try to get a good pic of it behind the center console/seat.
I have 2 amps, one behind each seat, one for the highs/mids and one for the single sub.

lol.....thanks

I finally got it legal and on the road, just passed the 500 mile mark and its time for another oil change. Aside from melting my positive bat. cable to a header(not pretty, could have easily blown the battery) the thing runs great.

Man, lookin' great. Can you give a quick rundown how you put your buckets in there? I put buckets in mine but I'd like to know how others do it.

It wasnt too bad actually. As I have said, these are out of a 2006 Lincoln.

Drivers side:
Front left bracket only needed to bad cut a little, then bent down to about a 45 deg. angle.
Rear left required no modification.
Front right I cut and bent straight down, then made an L bracket from an old exhaust hanger (1/4 inch I suppose, maybe thicker)
Rear right was the most interesting. The factory bracket came off at a weird angle, like 45 degrees down AND out. I cut the bracket off(cut large rivets), and I found that if I flipped it around, it layed in the floorpan(where the floor drops down) almost perfectly. Then set the seat in, lined it up, and some small welds finished it off.

Passenger side was very much the same.

I had to drill 4 new holes in the floor for each seat and used several large washes plus lock washers underneath.

I would still like to reinforce the floor with something better than washers, but it works for now. I used aftermarket seat belts that are bolted in the factory reinforced holes.

So, other than minor(ish) bracket modifications, they sat in there pretty well. I didnt have to build new seat subframes or anything like that.

Its just a plastic cover, cant think of the brand name off hand. And its painted with colorbond(BMW Black).
